Full disk image backup recovery to new HD fails

Thread needs solution

I bought Acronis True Image 2014 to backup my failing HD. I created a disk backup 950
gb in size on an external usb drive 2 TB in size. After installing a new 3TB hd drive in my computer I used the Acronis Boot disk to recover the image. I was not successful using the recovery functions but I created a clone and after 4 hours it was finished. I removed the acronis disk and restarted and I got an error message NTLDR is missing. After looking around online I tried several fixes for this including using my Windows 7 64 bit installation disk to repair that failed, I also tried at the command prompt a series of fixboot commands which revealed that no Windows installation existed. When I checked the contents both drives all the folders on the source disk had been cloned even though I selected the .tib file only.
At this point I could really use some help
.Does anyone know what went wrong?

Was your backup that you created a "Disk Mode" backup? When you attempted the restore operation was the new (target) disk installed in your computer? It is unclear what you did in the the clone attempt, the clone function is designed to be used to create a mirror image of an entire system and so pointing the clone tool to only the.tib backup file would sure enough cause a non boot result.
