Hardware change.

Thread needs solution

Acronis one morning gave me a message about a hardware change, and asked me if I wanted to have it update for the new hardware. Since there has never been any hardware change to my machine, I was confused by this. But, since I was too scared of what might happen if I said no, I clicked yes. From then on the backup file name was changed.

It used to be Main_(C).tib. And I have this file overwritten every new back up.

But after this "change" my back up file name has been this: Main_(C).tib_B7562B70-19A3-4AB1-ACC8-1AC2ED0573F21.tib

I have no idea what that happened, and what effect it might have on the backup files. Any one have an explanation and some way to revert back to the old and simplier file name?

David,

I would create a new backup task:
- move your existing TIB files to another directory on the same disk,
- delete your current task,
- create a new task.

I guess you are using the single version scheme, right?

Yes, I am using the single version scheme. Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that.

David,

Many users have had issues with the default single version scheme. If the issue persist, swith to the following scheme:
- incremental,
- do a new full backup after 1 incremental,
- keep only the most X most recent versions.

If X is the number of chain you can keep, and Y is the peak size of a full backup, you will need about (X+1)*Y*(1.2) space.

Also a very interesting idea, and another one I didn't think of. Thanks very much.

This solution worked, and it was the first one I tried, so I went no further. Thanks for the ideas. I will keep the other suggestion in mind as well.

And BTW, the notifications for replies on this thread are not working for me. I just keep coming back here at times just to check. Good thing, too.

You have to turn on the notifications in your account settings AND make sure the box is checked for each reply.

Just having this box checked at the bottom of this page is not enough?

"Notify me when new comments are posted"

I am afraid not. You have to have the option set up in your account settings.

In my account settings:

Receive comment follow-up notification e-mails:

"All Comments" is in the drop down window.

Don't see anything else I can do. But thanks anyway.

David,
If you have the option checked in both your account and your postings, then my next check would be in the spam folder of my email account.--Just a thought.

Just checked that. Nothing in there. But thanks for the reply.
