Has the GUI changed?
I use Acronis TIH 2010. It does the basic job I need well and I never have issues restoring. I tried TIH 2011 but it crashed all the time and they changed the GUI to that ridiculous dumbed down style that everybody hated. 2012 had the same GUI and the forums for 2011 and 2012 have hundreds of posts and complaints about the GUI, and many other issues.
I'd like to know if the older type GUI for knowledgable users has been restored, or is at least an option.
I want control of my backups and will not use a product like 2011 or 2012

Another year, another version down the drain.

Bruce,
I cannot comment on your UI preferences, but I think the infrastructure improvements in 2013 are promising (installation, drivers, stability, archive management). Only time will tell in this forum...

I'm happy to have a version without lots of added doodads or a new paint scheme on the walls but more debugging, better error handling, and generally a more solid product. How much they've fixed is not clear to me yet (the sony vaios s series restore problem still requires the two-fisted workariund) but the prog looks pretty much the same as ati2012. Fingers crossed.

It's not the UI, but the total redesign that represented. As a result I found both 2011 and 2012 to be completely unusable for even the most simple image backup. I'm not about to try 2013 out of fear just installing it might BSOD my box. I'll wait until I see many months of positive comments here about 2013, but I'm not holding my breath. I think Acronis demonstrated where their priorities are with 2011, and I've seen zero change in that since.
Bruce.

Bruce, it's entirely your call whether you want to try it or not. But, from what I've read from other MVPs' esperience, 2013 looks promising: more stable and fewer issues than 2012.

ATi2013 might be the new ati10 (not to be confused with ati2010), which was the last really solid, I mean rock hard solid version. I still use it on some machines. But certainly it's smart to wait for the initial reports to come in.

Scott, old thread, but, for me still relevant .. as I just upgraded from ATI Home 10 (the old, good one...) to ATI Home 2013. Is there a way to change the UI to a more advanced mode? I really can't stand the 'dumbed' down ATI Home 2013 UI!! If not, I may well switch to Macrium Reflect, which seems to be a good alternative...
Thanks.

The interface has slowly improved over the years but since 2009, the basic paradigm has remained, that paradigm being the backup set, sort of.
There is no advanced mode but if you can stomach the interface in ati 2014, the functionality is pretty robust and the program more solid than it's been in years.
I have found others to sorely lack features or to have as many or more probs than ati.

Thanks for your follow-up!
In your above comments, do you refer to ATI 2014 or to ATI 2013 Build #6514, the latter of which I have and the version I queried about?
From various forum messages I know that ATI 2013 had some serious problems early on. Presumably (hopefully) most of these issues were later taken care of (by Acronis) and not present in Build #6514. Can you confirm this and/or give me a short-list of 'known issues' with Build #6514. As a 'heads-up' of sort...
If you refer to ATI 2014 being the better and more robust version, well, unless Acronis gave me a free upgrade I would not be interested. The way I see it, any version should be fully functional 'as advertised'.

Most backup programs do not have anywhere near the functionality of ATI. Acronis keeps adding little chirps and whistles with each version to induce further sales.
Not a lot diff between 2013 and 2014. My comments stand either way. Truth is, you can probably do whatever it is you want to do if you use ati 2013 or 14, and once you have set up the tasks, they're easy enough to initiate manual or run automatically after that. Most backup progs still let you try them for free -- pain is that you often cannot have two installed on the same machine. But if you want to shop, you can do it for no dollars-- only time and effort.

Thanks Scott,
I'm working on it .. getting used to the new UI and the added 'chirps and whistles'! That said, I think this is one of the problems with Acronis, as they never learned the maxim 'don't fix it if it ain't broke'. We'll see what happens. I have ATI 2013 installed and I hope it works out okay.

Iirc they make a bare bones version.. wait another 2 or 3 months and see what ati2015 looks like ;)

Scott,
As a postscript of sorts: as someone who used to 'fiddle' with PC-DOS (at that time it was necessary), I have no patience/time to deal with ATI 2013's bugs and inflexible UI. So, I removed same and installed Macrium Reflect Standard. It works fine and has a UI for non-dummies too.
Cheers, CBA

Be sure and write back in a month and let us know how it's working out.

I'll try to remember!
But, just to make that clear, my 1st choice would have been to stay with Acronis as I have had excellent experience with ATI Home 10 (final build) for many years. Saved my bacon (as others have said...) a' plenty! In fact, if it had been feasible I would have installed that same ATI version on my Windows 7 machine. However, too risky and not a good idea.

You're not the first to leave ATI because of the interface. It would be a service to others to inform them of how an alternaive works.
