HD works fine - but backup-error

Thread needs solution

hello,

goal: creating a backup of my 750GB WD Hard Drive
condition of the hd: works fine with XP; read, write no problems
strategies that i have tried:
-chkdsk FAILED
-Total Comander FAILED
-Acronis True Image (2010, 2011, WD Edition) FAILED

How would you proceed? Which strategy would you use.
At the moment I have no intention to send them to Kroll OnTrack since the HD works fine.

thanks in advance
hans

Run chkdsk X: /f /r on all your hard disk partitions. Replace the X with the drive letter of the partition being tested. What error messages do you get? What aspect of TI is failing - archive creation, archive restore or archive validation?

Because the HD seems to be working in XP does not always mean it is problem free, it just means you perhaps haven't seen the effects of the problem yet.

thanks for your help seekforever

as i mentioned in the 1st post i tried chkdsk with the parameters /f and /r.

With every of the 3 solution I tried, the computer went "in tilt". It was always read error.

"it just means you perhaps haven't seen the effects of the problem yet." maybe.

for me its very strange, i can write and read easily on this HD. Its only a DATA-HD there is only 1 partition, there is no OS installed on it.
as i formatted the HD when I bought it, there where no errors. I used the Align Tool that Western Digital suggested, worked fine, no errors.

It seams to me that you are very experienced.
Can you give me some more advices?

thanks

Your problem is starting to sound familiar but there are similar ones around. Is there an earlier thread describing the problem as well? If so, and I replied to it, I'd appreciate the link to it. The search function isn't helping me find anything.
