Help! Deleted my "D" drive!

Thread needs solution

First time backing up and screwed it up. I choose recover and then destination drive. I chose D b/c that's where my old files were. Chose 'Recover' and when I checked, it had renamed my Dd rive as 'System Reserved.' All data gone. Can I get it back?? There was data there that had not been backed up yet.

What contents does your backup contain?
Was it a backup of the entire disk or just partitions or just files. Tell us more about the backup contents.

No data to worry about. The backup was a game. I was just trying out the backup feature to see how it worked. I knew my D drive (2 T) had plenty of room to recover this game folder to. But the drive did have some other data on it. I thought Acronis would just recover the game folder to free areas on the dive and leave my other data alone. I was wrong. It deleted all data, then divide the drive into 2 partitions, a systems reserved part and a larger unallocated part. I now realize my data is gone, but I would like to put the parts back together and just get my old D drive back, even if it doesn't have anything in it anymore (except for this recvovered game folder which I will delete)

If the 2T has no usable data, then just use Windows or another partitioning tool and delete the partitions on the 2T and then start over with partitioning the 2T into whatever you want.

It sounds like your backup was just the 1 partiton system reserved so that is what was restored onto the 2T. The result that you encountered is normal and it is up to the user to understand and control the restore. Any restore would have deleted the existing contents of D. When you now more about the product, it is possible to create partitons on the disk being restored and then restore into those partitions. Your D only had the one partiton and that is what the system reserved was restored into and the balance of space was left unallocat ed.

Unfortunately, I understand all to well now! I was looking for a partitioning tool on Acronis but couldn't find one. Does Windows have one? I used to have Partition Magic, but haven't use it in years--have to look for it.

Yes, there is a partitioning tool on the Acronis TrueImage Recovery CD as well as the Windows version.

It is found under Tools and its name is "Add new disk".

This will enable you to clear the existing data and partition as you see fit.
