HHD UPGRADE TO SSHD DISK

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I am about to upgrade a laptop hard drive to a Seagate SSHD drive. I note in instructions there are some methods to be used when upgrading to a SSD but what about upgrading to the hybrid SSHD?? What's the best method??

Instructions for upgrade to a different HDD should be used. The SSD flash memory used in hybrid drives are not accessible to the user so for OS and App installs the user is doing so to a traditional HDD. For more information about Seagates spin on this technology visit this link:

Thanks for that Enchantech, just wanted to confirm what I thought would be probable correct method.

Check this link. You may need to use another recovery program with your hybrid drive.

Enchantech I don't quite understand your instructions about following instructions for upgrade to a different HDD should be used. I too am upgrading a laptop from an old HDD to an SSHD and as I follow existing process for just reinstalling an image to an existing drive (which is the same procedure I used to upgrade a different laptop's HDD to an SSD and it worked), the process hangs up after "Chose Recovery Method". So apparently there are instructions someplace about upgrading to a different HDD and that will work for upgrading to an SSHD drive. Where do I get these instructions?

True Hybrid drives are not supported by the ATI application. My response was not clear on that so apologies. There are installations which are a spin on Hybrid drives in which a small capacity SSD is used as a cache for a much larger HDD. In these instances it is possible to restore an image of an OS to the HDD is such a system and then retrain as is were the SSD to do the caching. In this scenario normal recovery procedures from one HDD to another should work.

Thanks for the quick follow up! After reading your response and knowing that I successfully performed this same type of upgrade on a SSD in a different laptop, I connected up the SSHD drive via a SATA to USB cable to a different system. The second system also failed to recognize the SSD so I just returned it to Amazon for a replacement.
