How to back up a encrypted Truecrypt drive??

Thread needs solution

Hello Peter,

which soltuiton have you bought and does this Product work well together with Truecrypt?

As I said, after (dutch) build 6597 it all worked fine, as far as I can see.
It recognises the Truecrypt partition and now possible to make image.

I am using a German Version (also build 6597). I don't know if it is possible to use the key of my German version with an Englisch one?

Guess for other language's version you will need another code as well.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting. Christoph, please let me help you with your question.

You can install an English version using your German key. For this, you will need to have an English installation package. This applies to -

    * Acronis True Image Home 2010/2011
    * Acronis Backup & Recovery 10
    * Acronis Backup and Security 2010
    * Acronis Internet Security Suite 2010
    * Acronis Antivirus 2010
    * Acronis Disk Director 11 Home

I will send you a private message with the download link for the English version.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Thanks for the download link. But there was no difference with the encrypted drive. The workaround with "Junction Link Magic" works fine so that I can choose folders on my mounted drive.

Then I tried to create a non-stop backup. But there is another problem with TrueCrypt. I mounted an external drive and in my explorer it is shown as NTFS Drive. True Image tells me "Cannot back up to non-NTFS partition"?

I am using Win XP SP3 and TrueCrypt 7.0a.

Hello Christoph,

Thank you for the update.

Is your OS 64bit by any chance? If yes, have you tried this solution?

Let me know if you have additional questions please.

Thank you.

I found the knowledge base article yesterday but my os is 32 bit. So this tip don't fix my problem.

Hello Christoph,

I have some additional information about the issue that you experienced and the error message: "Cannot back up to non-NTFS partition".

It can be caused either by a malfunction of our low-level drivers on x64 operating systems or if the hard drive is encrypted with TrueCrypt. As a workaround please use a non-encrypted volume. We also updated the following KB article with this information:

 - Acronis True Image Home 2011 Nonstop Backup: "Cannot backup to non-NTFS partition" When Selecting NTFS Partition as Destination

Also, I would like to update our Forum Community about the status of the compatibility issue of Acronis True Image 2011 Home and TrueCrypt.

Currently, partition backup is not possible but you can create file level backups. Also, if you have any encrypted container created with TrueCrypt, you can use file-level backup to back it up. Please check this KB article for more information.

Another workaround would be to encrypt backups files using our software. There are different encryption keys that can be used. Please check this page for more details.

Let me know if you have additional questions please.

Thank you.

Does TrueCrypt backup the file correctly when TrueCrypt is set *not* to modify the file container timestamp ("preserve Windows timestamps" in TrueCrypt preferences)?
Some TrueCrypt users turn this feature on to increase plausible deniability: the file container modification date is never changed, even if the container is actually modified upon mounting, using and unmounting.

I would guess you have to avoid this feature for ATI to see the file has been changed...

My way to backup an TrueCrypt drive:

1) TrueCrypt Drive S: - for storage of my secret files, 12G
2) TrueCrypt Drive Y: - for Backups of drive S: - 100G

Every evening at 10pm Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 backups my win7 partition and my secret storage.
And my secret storage is backed up to another secret storage - drive Y:

Win7 partition is backed up as Disk Archive, and TrueCrypt Drive S: is backed up as File Archive - I cannot backup TrueCrypt drive in Disk mode - it's very annoying, because many programs (such as Skype) keep it's opened files as READ PROTECTED, and I have to kill Skype to perform a File Backup of my secret drive. I hope Acronis will fix it very soon, before I choose another brand (as Peter Bischoff above).

Why do I have to use another TrueCrypt disk for backups instead of using built-in archive encryption with password?
In this case I have to enter password every time (goodbye automation) or keep password (hash) in Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 config (goodbye security). This is equally unacceptable.
