How can I create a differential backup to CD when the full backup is saved in CD as well.

Thread needs solution

When a differential backup is created, the path for the differential backup will be the same as that for the full backup.

Now I have one full backup saved in one CD. I insert it in the CD-RW. Then I begin to make the differential backup. The problem is where the differential backup is put? If the differential backup is also put in CD, how can I save the differential backup to a new CD? If I insert a new CD, how does Acronis get the difference between full backup and my computer?

Note: I can't copy the full backup to my hard disk, because I have to backup all Drives. Once I copy the full backup to the hard disk. The full backup will be saved into the new differential backup as a new file, and the differential backup will be larger than the full backup.

Thank you

Your 2nd best bet is to use DVDs, which may have room for both -- you need to have both the full and the inc/dif in the same directory. Your very best bet is to get another harddrive and create you backups there. Then, if you want to have them on optical disk, copy them from the harddrive to the optical disk with whatever disk burner you have. Personal I like imgburn (it's not only an outsatanding burner but it's also free).

Also, when restoring, if you have backups on an optical disk, it's a good rule of thumb to copy the backup to a harddrive before restoring.

I know your meaning, but I can't get another harddrive because the customers don't agree to buy one harddrive for this. They want to create the differential backup to DVD directly. So I want to know what will occur when I insert the full backup CD and create the differential backup? Is there a information telling me to change a new DVD? Now, I have no DVD available. So I can't test what can be happened.

My customers' computer condition: only two harddrives, drive C:\ and drive D:\, and Drive E:\ is the DVD-RW. There is no network and no another harddrive. There are two DVDs. One is the full backup, which my company supplied. The other is blank, which the customers want to burn the differential backup archive in. That is to say, the full backup and the differential will be saved into two DVDs. Of course, there is no problem when the restoring is done.

Hello Feng Bin and Scott Hieber,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to create differential backup to a separate CD when your full is created on another one. Our program does require exact path to full backup in order to check it for differential\incremental backup creation, and it's not possible for CD's.

We are sorry for inconvenience.

Thank you.
