How to create backup that is split across DVD's

Thread needs solution

I have searched but can't seem to see the answer. (I have 2014 Premium)

Now with many computers not coming with hard copies of software, when the disk goes bad you cant recover to factory using the software on the hard drive.

I want to create DVD's of the computer when its first installed with all my programs.

However when I boot off of CD there appears to be no options to backup and break the backup into parts that would fit on DVD. Is this possible, or not?

Thanks.

Greetings,

While backing up to DVD is possible, I would like to STRONGLY urge you to choose another medium (destination) as DVD's are not very reliable in the long run.

First, any time you break up a .tib image, you introduce a point of failure.

Second, your back up is only as reliable as the media its being stored on.  DVD's aren't high on the list of archival media.  Two or more back ups are always better than one, so if you are planning to use DVD's as a second back up, then you should be OK, but I would make more than one copy of ANY data that is important, and that you cannot live without.

Back up to DVD is automatic...  When you select DVD as a back up destination, Acronis will detect the media and break the .tibs into chunk that will fit your media...  4.7GB or 9.4 if double sided (you flip).  Further..  In options you can specifiy your own file sizes, but again, I recommend you allow the program to do it for you.  It will prompt you for new media when the current destination becomes full and additional space is needed.

Thank you for your response. And it makes sense.

Additionally, I have created 4 DVD's with the method you have mentioned above.

To recover would I use the Acronis boot CD and then point the source to the DVD?

Thanks.

Thats correct.  And as the image is restored, you will be prompted to insert the next disc.  Be sure to label each DVD with a sharpie.

Hallo shadowsports

Wurde das schon mal verucht mit ATI 2014?

Mit ATI 2013, muss ich die Images, vor der Wiederherstellung auf eine externe Festplatte kopieren.

Have you tryed it with ATI 2014?

With ATI 2013, i have to  copy the Images before restore to a external Harddisk.

Hi G. Uphoff,

I wonder which KB article is correct?

More information

You do not need to have all of the volumes of a multi-volume image residing within the same folder to validate or restore it. An image can be restored or validated even if it is spanned over several CD or DVD discs.

I think however, you are correct, as I have not used DVD's as a destination since v9.  If copying all chunks to one folder is required, this further demonstrates why this media is not a good (reliable) choice for back ups.  They introduce one point of failure after another, even if the back up doesn't span and only requires one disc. One hiccup or disc read error and you're done :)

Cheers!
