How Do I Fix "File I/O Error"?

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to do a full image of my C:\ drive in True Image Home and immediately I get the error dialog telling me there is a "File I/O Error." I'm pointing it to an external USB hard drive with over 500 GB of space on it, and True Image has made several previous images there with no problem. How do I fix this problem?

fixingh depends on what is causing the problem. 1st step is test the drives for errors and try a diff usb cable to make sure the connections are reliable.

Also if doing the backup from the BootCD or from windows, try doing it the other way and see if the prob persists. The Boot CD backs up using a linux environ and the linux drivers coudl be the prob. Or, in windows, ti could just be an ATI prob.

Hello Gerald,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

The most probable cause is that the disk's speed is slower than the speed at which product tries to write to it. Try reducing the HDD writing speed to 80% or less (Backup options -> HDD writing speed):

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Hi Dimitry, I'm having the same problem with the I/O error.

I'd like to try reducing the writing speed, but in this screenshot, you see I don't have the HDD Writing Speed under Backup Priority like I see in your screenshot. I've clicked around and don't see it anywhere. Can you help with this?
