How do I restore image to dissimilar hardware?
Hi,
I would like to know how to restore an image to dissimilar hardware.
I have Acronis True Image Home 2010 with the Plus Pack which is now integrated into True Image Home 2010.
I have a multi boot system with two editions of XP Professional and before this (Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Version 64 and Linux Unbuntu).
I have also upgraded to the latest build 7160.
When I try to restore the image on another machine there is no option: "Use Universal Restore" on the Choose recovery method on the Recovery Wizard screen.
I've looked at the solutions to this problem, unfortunately I cannot find the solution.
Will an OEM edition of Windows XP work on another machine?
What is the most likely reason as to why I don't see "Use Universal Restore" as an option under "Recover whole disks and partitions"?
Thanks,
BG.

Thats correct, I'm using Acronis True Image Home 2010 and the Plus Pack which has been intergrated into Acronis True Image Home 2010.
Are you infering that I need to have just the one operating system and not mulitple operating systems ?
I selected one operating system (XP Professional SP3), on one of the many drives that I have in my computer.
The configuration of my system was: XP Professional SP3 OEM, Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Version x64, and Ubuntu Linux.
Now it is: XP Professional SP3 (different copy, than the one above), XP Professional SP3.
OK so now when I reach the boot menu choices, I have a choice of either my new installation of XP Pro or the default XP Professional which is what I mostly use.
Ok thank you very much for responding to my post.
I will remove all drives except the one hard drive and one OS, see if that solves my problem.
Thanks again,
B.G.

Just to confirm: you did produce a new recovery CD *after* you have installed the Plus Pack.

Yes I did burn another CD *after* I installed the Plus Pack.
In fact I burnt three CD (images) in total, just to make sure.

I now only have one hard drive, and one external drive.
Still can't get it to work?
Baffled.

I was saying that you could try to do a first backup of only one system partition, making sure you include the active partition, and restore first this image to the new computer with the new drivers.
The drivers need to be available during restore, you can put them in a folder on the backup disk or on another flash drive.
When you reboot on the CD and start the restore wizard, you should see the Universal Restore feature when you select recover whole disks and partitions. Worst case it is greyed out.
If it is not there at all, you have a Plus Pack installation issue. YOu should uninstall the Plus Pack, uninstall ATI, reboot, reinstall ATi and reinstall the plus pack, then produce a CD.

I'm going to do a "Wipe and Load Migration" and then reinstall Acronis True Image Home 2010, followed by a reinstallation of the Plus Pack.
I'll put the IDE controller drivers on a flash disk instead of the back up drive, - hopefully I have the correct drivers.?
OK, so I just realised that Universal Restore obviously wasn't integrated into ATIH2008.
Thank you for your help, I'll let you know how I went.

**PROBLEM SOLVED**
OK, I removed Acronis True Image Home 2010 and the Plus Pack from add remove programs, downloaded both the **updated** Acronis True Image Home 2010 program build 7,160 as well as the Plus Pack, and integrated them.
I reburnt the "Bootable Rescue Media" disc and now when I boot the disk and enter the Restore wizard I discovered the OPTION of Use Acronis Universal Restore:)
Pat L. thank you very much for the advice, I suspect it was the bungled integration.
Now for the restoration which I'll do as soon as I get some free time.
