How to Finalize a Backup Saved to Recordable Media

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have just downloaded the trial version of Acronis True Image 2014. I'm impressed with the software so far and am contemplating purchasing the full version, but before I do I have a question I would like answering.

When saving a drive image or backing up files to recordable media such as a CD/DVD, is it possible for True Image to finalize the disc - making it read only - so that no further data can be written to it? I have looked under 'Removable media settings' in the 'Backup options' window but cannot see anything there relating to this. I understand the software doesn't finalize discs automatically in order to allow further backups to be stored on the disc at a later date (like a USB drive), but I would prefer for the disc to be finalized and write protected once I have created my backup.

Any advice on how I can achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

I would discourage your use of the CD or DVD as a backup media. A hard disk would be a better choice.
A backup is a very large file and when broken in pieces, the change of corruption increases.

Thanks for your reply!

I appreciate your suggestion that an external storage device is the most practical way of backing up my data, and I do backup my files regularly to an external hard drive for quickness and ease. However, there are a number of security concerns I have with using external storage devices, namely the fact that the data can be altered or deleted by another user, or become corrupted or infected with malware if connected to an infected system. The beauty of optical media is that once the data has been written, and the disc made read-only, no alterations can be made to said data.

Hello Chris,

currently there is no such option in Acronis software, but I'll put your suggestion in our Customer Listening System and it will be carefully considered by development.

Thank you.

I believe that since your removeable disk would contain only backup data that once the disk session where closed this would result in a finalized disk. This is a normal occurance within Windows when recordable media disks are written to. Disk session ends, finalization occurs.
