How to format mSATA SSD?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have a DELL precision M6600 containing an 128GB mSATA SSD for the OS W7Prof.
I just bought a 256GB mSATA SSD to have more space for my OS.
And I just bought ATIH (including Plus Pack) in order to move my OS to the new SSD.

The SSD came unformated and in the manual it is described that I have to format the new SSD with a 1024 alignment prior to migrating the OS.
But hte manual assumes that I have access to the new SSD from the Windows OS and can use the diskpart utility. But I only have one mSATA port in my Notebook. There I either have the old SSD with the W7 OS and without the new SSD I want to format or the new SSD without the OS. There is no chance to have both the OS and the SSD to be formatted.

Is it possible to use the ATIH rescue-CD in order to format the SSD?
And if yes which steps do I have to follow?

Thanks and regards

If the rescue CD sees the mSata SSD, you can simply restore an image of the current disk on the new SSD. There is no need to pre-format when you restore a full disk backup.

Here's how to format an SSD

Step 1. Open the Control Panel and go to System and Maintenance. Now click administrative tools and double-click on Computer Management. (As a shortcut, you can right-click on My Computer - This Computer in Windows 8 - and click Manage. A faster way in Windows 8 is to right-click on the Start button and choose Disk Management.)
Step 2. Click Disk Management in the left-hand pane. If it isn't visible, expand the Storage section of the menu.
Step 3. Work out which drive is your SSD by its capacity in the list of drives. If you're unsure because two drives have the same capacity, disconnect any other drives that you can to avoid formatting the wrong disk.
Step 4. Right-click on the drive and choose Format… from the menu.
Step 5. Select your options for the name and file system, then make sure 'Perform a quick format' is checked and click OK.

If you just want to format a disk, use Noah's inlsutructions. If you want to install a new disk and restore an image from a previous didsk, then follow Pat's advice -- mkae backup of you r current disk, swap in the new disk. Boot the ati boot Cd and restore to the new disk. Ati will take care oa alignment and formatting etc.
