How to get rid of bootwiz?

Thread needs solution

There is a folder on my C drive called bootwiz. Inside bootwiz there is one file, asrm.bin, 50,972KB.
When I try to delete bootwiz I am told, "This action can not be completed because this file is open in another program."

I do not want to run multiple OSs on this notebook. How can I get rid of bootwiz?

You already asked this question here http://forum.acronis.com/forum/28677 and been answered.

The answer did not solve the problem.

bootwiz is not visible when I boot from the Windows Installation CD. I booted from the CD, selected Repair, Command line, entered CD/ to go to the root directory, entered DIR to display the contents. bootwiz was not there.

bootwiz is visible when boot to Windows and go to Computer, select drive C with Hide Hidden files unchecked.

Since it was created with Acronis Boot Selector does Acronis have cleaner to get rid of it?

KCav:

Are you using the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM)? Doesn't this file get deleted when you de-activate the ASRM? Make sure that the ASRM has been de-activated and that the computer boots normally without displaying the "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" prompt before deleting the Bootwiz folder and its contents.

When you're sure that the ASRM is not in use, go to a command prompt on the Windows Installation CD and use dir /a to see hidden files and folders. Change to the Bootwiz directory using cd \Bootwiz then type dir /a again to see all of the files in the Bootwiz directory, including hidden ones.

To delete a hidden file you have to first unhide it using attrib -h filename and then delete it using del filename.

At a command prompt type

dir /?
attrib /?
del /?
rmdir /?

to see how to use these commands to accomplish your deletion task.

We're sort of covering the basics here and old ground. YOu probably should leave the file alone unless you first gain more expertise with computers. Ithink you are more likely to cause damage to your setup than to improve things by trying to remove this file.

Make sure that ASRM has been disabled

I am not sure ASRM has been disabled even though " Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" does not appear when I boot the system.

I wonder why Acronis, Disk Director reports 2.090MB of unallocated space not seen by MSC Disk Manager.

I found Acronis OS Selctor activator running in MSC Services (Local). I disabled it then booted from the Windows Installation CD. When I tried dir /a, Bootwiz was not visible. However when I rebooted, Bootwiz was in the root directory of drive C.

2 MB is so insignificant. It could be a set aside area from the drive maker used for spare clusters to replace ones gone bad. Or jsut space outside the standard paramenters for the partitions. I wouldn't worry about it.
