How to make a restore with ACRONIS

Hi Forum,
I know very well how to restore a database in SAP / ORACLE / Linux. As for
Windows I am not sure. If you have to restore a former backup,an image, do you have
to start your PC by a Windows-DVD and then restore the backup in question
or can you login quite normally and then start a restore ? Is there any literature how to do this ?
