How to prevent an automated clone?

A few days ago I cloned my hard disk to an image on another disk.

This went just fine ............ but today the software just tried to automatically make another clone image - it only failed to do so because I have temporarily removed the second drive.

Why did the software try to make the clone without me actually telling it to?

How do I stop it doing this again?
