How to separate backups in home 2011

Thread needs solution

Hi all, have used Arconis Home prior to this addition of Home 2011 . My question is on previous additions I was able to make monthly backups of my system and had the ability to restore whatever month I wished. Now with Home 2011 it doesn’t separate them by backups it just adds to the one that’s already there .I really need these separate backups can anyone tell me how to do it. I don’t what to add to the old one I need a new one each month. I am backing up to a external hard drive by the way. thank you all

In the windows version, in ATI, you can "explore versions" of your backup, you will see the various dates that you can restore from.
If you browse to the TIB files, you can right click on any of them, and then choose "archive > restore"
A third way, when you boot your computer on the CD, you will the various dates at which a backup has been done.

bigdogsleeping,

TrueImage will put all the backups in one folder if you only use one task. Each backup will be sequentially numbered. If you want to change how many backups are stored, the attachment below may give you some ideas. Change the example to your choice of how many full's to be retained.

If your preference is to have each backup chain to be in its own folder, consider supplementing TrueImge with the helper program "Chain2Gen" (C2G). TrueImage does the scheduling and creates the backups but Chain2Gen helps you to retain your choice of backups retained and stores one full backup (or chain, i.e. full+inc/dif)) per folder. If you had 12 months of monthly fulls or chains, you would have 12 folders numbered set0 to set11. The name of your backup would be your choice but a sequential number added to each backup. Chian retention works like an escalator, once the max number of chains is reached, the oldest chain is deleted as a new chain begins. If interested, check out my signature link below.

Thank you for the responses. After much frustration I uninstalled Acronis 2011 and started from scratch made two backups at different times. Then when I went to do a restore my to backups were present so I had a option to choose from. The only thing that I think I did different was a full install of the program when I was setting it up. I will be looking into that program helper Chain2Gen sounds interesting. Thanks again for the help.

some more thoughts:

as grover pointed out: first thing is you should set the backup scheme to "custom scheme" and select "full".

second i'd recommend to include the current date in the file name of the backup:
- target: browse for folder
- file name: MyBackup_@date@__

please note:
there seem to be a few bugs in the GUI. if you now save the settings they will be displayed with file name "MyBackup___".
so it does not display the place holder "@date@" that will be replaced during execution time. however, the placeholder is still inside. you just can't see it.
