I need help.

Thread needs solution

Im sorry if this is a stupid question but I have now bout 2 Acronis pruducts and still cant seem to get done what I need. Really didnt think it would be this hard.
My story:
I purchesed Acronis True Image Home 2011 from Micro Center ( like Frys). I was told this would Take all data from my old laptop and restore it on new one. After spending the 50 bucks my problems started. I am going from a DELL D620 to a DELL E6400. Not same hardware and this was stated up front to sales person. I follow instructions for back up and restore. Killed my new laptop! Now that I have it back from DELL I am trying again.
I have now purchased the PLUS Pack (now 80 bucks into this) and OMG! The instructions are crazy! I am no programer, more of a point, click and do what I want.

Is there any way someone can point me in the right direction? I just want my new DELL to be like my old one. If I was going from like to like this would have been easy.

Thanks for your time and for any help!

To get the plus pack to work you need to install it on your system, open up TI2011 and then remake the rescue CD. The CD will now contain the plus pack option.

Now whether you ultimately clone or restore and image to this new laptop, you may well (in fact more than likely) have a booting problem due to your new Dell requiring different drivers to the old one.

So - if Dell have or you can find the inf files for at least the video and network chip for your new laptop, your problesm should be easier to overcome. It is possible that Dell have used the same video and network chips as the old one in which case the problem shouldn't appear.

OK - make sure you have also made a complete disk image of the new laptop, just in case!

Next question is - is your old laptop image a complete disk or just a partition image?

Do you still have access to the old drive?

What OS did the old laptop use?

I do still have old laptop. I have TI2011 cd and the plus pack I bought online so its just a file. Looks like it is partition back up. I have the dell cds with drivers and os. Old laptop is xp new one is vista for now. Waiting on cd from dell for xp on new one.
When I first tried they were both xp but after out messed up had to send new one to dell and it came back with vista. Not happy but they are fixing it.
