I need information about Acronis True Image
Good morning.
Since 2007, I have a PC Acer Travelmate 6592G, with operating system Windows XP Pro SP3.
On it I installed Acronis True Image 7 (when Acronis authorized a free download of this version) and by this software I’ve been making an image of my HD each week, particularly of the partition C: (Operating System and Programs).
This month my system crashed; so I tried to restore the image that I had saved in an external HD.
But I horribly realized that the Acronis software, charged in memory to restore partition C:, didn’t see the internal HD of my PC (hard disk WDC WD2500BEVS-22UST0-(S1) SATA AHCI Mode). Moreover the Acer BIOS didn’t have the SATA mode option “Compatibility mode” that should have been able to solve the problem.
So I had to re-install Windows with the original disks, make all updates and reinstall all my programs with the right options.
Now I have reconfigured my PC and I want to choose a SIMPLE and RELIABLE software that on an external USB HD (WD MyPassport):
- can make an image of partition C: of my PC;
- can make the restore of this image in case of need.
I would like to know:
1) if the last version of Acronis True Image (vers. 10 I think) can reach my target, and can “see” my internal HD;
2) if this last version is compatible with Windows 7 (in case of hardware update);
3) what is the added value of Acronis True Image versus other software (for example NTI Backup NOW!, originally installed on my PC);
4) where can I buy (NOT by web) Acronis True Image in an authorized shop near the zones Centre / South-Southwest in Milan (Italy).
Many thanks in advance.

Thank you very much Colin for the information.
I took a little week of vacation and only today I red the answers to my questions.
I think I'll buy ATI 10 that might be very similar to ATI 7.
I didn't understand very well the the possibility to download the BartPE environment; what does it consist in? What is the link among ATI and BartPE?
Once I used BartPE four years ago, but it didn't see my local HD exactly as ATI 7 didn't.
But I think that also BartPE have had updates ...
Thanks a lot
