I really messed up with ASZ and reserve copies.

Thread needs solution

I have True image 2011 and DD11 installed on my first back up that is stored in ASZ and a reserved copy stored on a different partition on the same external drive. I made several other backup images of the same operating system with other software installed on ASZ and I also made reserved copies. Unfortunately I did not find out till too late that I could not indiscriminately delete reserved copies. Now when I go to Data Recovery and back up manager only a few of the backups show up and then when I go to Browse for location the missing copies appear. Also not all of my copies are functional. I want to start over and sin no more. If I go to my first backup and delete ASZ and manually delete the reserve copies because I can’t find them when I browse for backups and uninstall and then reinstall True Image 2011 and DD11 will I be able to go forward with out any problems? Do I need to uninstall True Image 2011 and DD11? Are the reserve copies that I made still viable or will True image find them when I reinstall True Image? If I need to delete the reserve copies for the sake of making it all work, I will do so. I just don't want to run the risk of further problems even if I have to start all over. Fortunately my first backup still works so I can remove everything.

It's not ATI per se that has gone wonky but the databse in ati that tracks backups.

To test a tib file for viability, run a Validate on it from within ati. Also you can browse to a tib using windows Explorer, right click and select Validate.

My personal recommendation is for you to delete the ASZ and don't make another one. It's a complication you don't really need.
If you have any tasks already created, then move any tibs you already have to a new location for safe keeping and create new tasks.

When ati starts the next time, it will probably list the old backups seperately but the new tasks will operate normally. IF you leave the old files in the old locaton na dhave the new tasks point there, ati can get confused about what backups belong to what tasks.

IF yo want to delete a backup, do that from within ati so the ati's database has the best chance of keeping track correctly.

Thank you Scott for your reply.

Since I am saving the tib files on an external hard drive I suppose I could just disconnect the external drive to keep the files safe from being scanned by my antivirus software. Or is that an other piece of computer mythology? Are the tib files in jeopardy if the partition they are on is defraged? The notion that I have of the ASZ is that it some how protects the tib files from the monsters that lurk in my computer.

the asz is another partiton that requries ati to work. You should be able to tell your defragger to ignore tib files, depending on which you use.
