I think I blew $50.....

Thread needs solution

Ok, I made a mistake ...

I bought Acronis 2012 to backup my Boot Camp partition based Windows 7 environment running on my MacBook Pro (2009 version), with the mistaken idea I'd be able to use it to buy a MacBook Pro (2012 version) and restore the old Boot Camp partition based Windows 7 to the new machine.

I've since found out that Acronis 2012 doesn't work on Apple machine ... wonderful ...

So, have I wasted $50, or is there something I can salvage here?

By that I mean, can I at least use Acronis 2012 to do a file-by-file type back up to someplace, then when I get the new machine, re-install Windows 7 and Acronis 2012 on it, restoring ALL the old file-by-file back up content to that new machine? Will that work and will I end up with the same old Windows 7 bootable environment I have now under my MacBook Pro Boot Camp partition?

Make any sense?

Thanks for any advice and feedback...

Regards,
Doug

Doug,
After your testing, should you decide that your purchase is not worth the money, Acronis has a 30 day refund guarantee--providing your purchase was direct from Acronis and not a retailer. Contact Acrinis before the 30 days is up and ask officially to them direct for a refund.

I am not a Mac user so not commenting about the other.

Thanks for the response ... :)

Yes it was bought direct from Acronis using PayPal...

I may have to do that as the product is useless under my configuration if it doesn't even do a logical file-by-file backup of a Windows 7 booted environment.

Due to the every increasing popularity of people buying Apple machines and using them in a dual Windows/Apple mode such as this, I'd suggest that someone in marketing add a caveat to the sales literature to save accounting a lot of time in issuing credits. The information is currently hidden away in the forums and not much good here until it's too late....

Doug

Edit: By the way, I can't really test anything without the distinct possibility of having Acronis 2012 destroy my Windows 7 installation, so I posted the file-by-file question here to see if anyone else has had that experience.

Follow up ...

Let me add ...

I've done a complete "File Backup" to your ON-LINE storage area successfully. I assume it's a logical file-by-file structure, as I can view various directories and individual files etc. So, I guess the crux of my original question is ... what is really there? Is it truly a logical file system from which I can use Acronis 2012 restore from ON-LINE to my Windows 7 environment, after I create a Boot Camp world with Windows 7?

Thanks ..

Doug

As a new purchaser, you can contact Acronis direct via Live Chat and see if they can answer your questions.

Along left margin, "How to get support."

Thanks...

I just assumed someone here would know...

I've decided to do the 30 day refund and find another product that will work, or even just use Windows 7 built-in support.

Doug
