Image backup takes forever and .tib file size is equal to drive size

Thread needs solution

When using TI2015 to perform image backup of Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Win 8.1 with 512GB SSD the backup takes hours and the resulting image file is about the same size of the entire drive even though only a fraction of the drive is in use. .tib file is 436GB but drive used shows 34GB. I don't trust this image backup. This has happened on 3 Surface Pro computers my clients have too. Data backups seem to work fine.

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you are using BitLocker encryption that is your issue. See here:

Thanks for your reply. None of the Surface Pro's have BitLocker encryption enabled. Also I would affect this to impeded data backups and those run normally.

Are the backup image tasks set as sector by sector? If so the backup will include all space on disk. Additionally if you are using Entire PC which is the default backup that will cause backup of system disk and any attached storage devices as well.

Not sector by sector. Disk and Partition backup set to one disk. This is the same configuration I use on all my clients pc's the only difference being this behavior with Microsoft Surface Pro computers. Dell pc's don't exhibit this behavior.

Thanks!

I have the same problem with Surface 3 and Win 8.1 (TI 2015 on Win 10 does not work). The backup takes hours and also 'air' is backed up.

I also have this problem with my Surface 3 and Windows 10. I did not check the sector by sector box but TI 2015 still copies the complete disk.

However on my desktop PC with Windows 10 only the occupied space is copied, just the way it should be. So it seems to be a Surface related issue.

Build: 6613

The drive c: is bitlocked, so the whole device is copied.

Thank you very much, WGlobal! I was not even aware of bitlocker nor that I ever enabled it. So I guess that my Surface 3 came wit bitlocker enabled by default. I turned it off and now my backup is just what I'm expecting, qua time and space.

Maybe Acronis should add a comment about that in further updates popping up just before the process starts.
