Imaging from a password protected hard drive

Thread needs solution

My laptop's hard drive is password protected (as in it does not let anyone boot from it without a password), would True Image allow me to image my drive over to a new drive (most likely an SSD). Considering it's impossible to remove the drive's password, this could be a major issue.

Why is it impossible to remove the drive's password?

You need to know exact name of technology used to encrypt (password-protect) the drive (bitlocker, truecrypt, hardware encryption, etc). Is it encrypted or password is protecting it only from booting ( i.e. someone can read it in other computer without booting from it)?
