Impossible to select destination disk (new crucial ssd)

Thread needs solution

Hi, I've got a problem while trying to clone my HDD to my new Crucial SSD.

Automatic or manual mode, I can select my source disk (HDD 465.8 Go)...but then, I can't select my destination disk (SSD 223.6 Go).

How to fix it ?

Thanks in advance.

Laurent.

Laurent, you cannot just clone an individual partition from a HDD.  Clone operates on the entire disk drive and creates an identical copy of the source disk drive on the target disk drive.  Thus, if your source HDD is 465GB in size but your target SSD is only 223GB the Clone wizard will not permit the target drive to be selected because it is not large enough to allow the clone to succeed.

You target drive for a clone operation should be of equal or larger size than the source drive.

You could create a backup image of your system 80GB partition, plus any other hidden system partitions required for booting, i.e. system reserved / EFI partition, and restore this to your new SSD drive.  You would need to connect the SSD in place of the current HDD drive using the same connector / cable that the HDD uses and test if that will boot correctly.
