Incremental backup "Explore" doesn't show all files??

Thread needs solution

First time I've restored using an incremental backup. I have one full and two incremental backups created using the "File Backup" method where you select the individual files and folders. I have a folder with a bunch of files under My Documents, an Outlook.pst file, and Google boomarks file - that's it.

I want to restore all the data up to the most recent, so from what I understand I should open the latest incremental backup. When I do so and go into the Explore screen to browse contents of the backup I only see the My Documents directory, not the "Local Settings" directory where the Outlook.pst and bookmarks files are stored.

I noticed that if I select the drive letter at the top of the file tree the calculated backup size is larger than the selected files. So I went ahead and restored and sure enough the Outlook.pst files is restored. So the data is there.

But why can't I see it when expanding the file tree / exploring?

In case it matters the source computer was XP and the target computer was Windows 7.

You need to set Windows to show hidden/system files and folders to be able to view these in Acronis, as it uses Windows settings to determine the view of those files. When you do a file backup and don't have show hidden/system files turned on in Windows, you can not select them either. If you select a folder to back up that contains hidden/system files or folders, they are backed up, but will not be visible in Acronis unless the Windows system settings allow it. Also when doing a file based backup, there is an setting in the "File Backup Options" section / "Excludes" tab to exclude/include system files and hidden files. You should check those settings when creating a file based backup and set them as desired. When doing a disk based backup, all files, including hidden and system are included in the backup.

HI James - thanks! Almost of all my machines have that option turned on, but I'm setting up a new laptop and that would explain the behavior. Good to find it was something simple and I'm glad I asked.
