Incremental backup file size suddenly increased by 30x

Thread needs solution

I have ATI 2013 with Windows 8 64 bits.

Until a few months ago all my incremental backups were about 3GB in size with the biggest ones at 13GB (after a full initial backup of 580GB).

Then suddenly they went up to 100-120GB each: a 30x increase.

I don't remember changing any setting and "Sector by Sector" is not checked.

I thought it was due to my signing up to a larger account size on Dropbox (from 2.5 GB to 100GB), so I excluded the Dropbox folder from being backed up, but that did not make any difference.

I understand defragging can bloat backup size but I was defragging in the background also before when the incremental back-up size was 3-13GB.

Does anyone have any possible explanation and/or solution so that I can go back to having smaller incremental backup file sizes?

Hi Grover, thank you for your complete and thorough reply. I was not aware I was entitled to a free upgrade. Thanks for pointing out.

I'll try your recommended solutions and will report back.
