Incrementals not creating individual files

Thread needs solution

I am working with Acronis Home 2009 - 9.796 at two unrelated locations. Both are running XP Pro SP3

In each case, Acronis Home is set to create incrementals... but in each case, if you look in the target directory or go to recover an image there is only one file - which is from the date when an incremental last ran.

I am used to being able to go back and pick a specific day e.g. a virus hit two days ago... so you restore the image from three days ago.

Unfortunately, that option does not exist with these machines. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't do incrementals but the common reason for this behaviour is that TI is not aware of the archive it is supposed to use as a reference for the new incremental. The archive file names have to be consistent.

Been a long time (very long) but back to the same puzzle.

I created the job as an incremental... how can Acronis be confused about which archive to use, when the whole job was created from scratch. Wouldn't it remember the name of the archive it was created with? And if not, how would I tell.

Hello,

Tomster2, let me help you.

When backup job is created from scratch and you choose to create incremental archives, Acronis True Image will create a full backup archive at the first run and after that it'll start to create an incremental ones.

I may suggest you to check setting on Backup Method screen: make sure that you haven't set Create a full backup after X incrementals set to 1.

Additionally, please check Automatic Consolidation settings as they also may cause such behavior.

If you're absolutely sure that you haven't set up the above options to something specific, I may suggest you to update Acronis Scheduler module that is used to manage all tasks. Please follow the instructions from this KB article.

Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

Full backup after incrementals was not set to 1.
Autoconsolidation settings were set to consolidate after 500G were used on a 1 T drive. We were not close to that limit. We were unable to create incrementals.

I uninstalled Acronis from my customer's machine, installed a competing product (at my own expense)... it created a full backup, and subsequent incrementals without any problems.

Disappointed I could not get Acronis to work.
