Installation and Implementation of ATIH2009, ATIH Addon and Disk Director 10

Thread needs solution

Dear Forum Members & Knowledgeable Users

I have the following applications and following problems:-

I have recently installed ATIH2009 on my WinXP Pro SP3 PC and it works as expected, no real problem there. However, I have had to activate the "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" several time, it just won't stay activated.

Why?

I tried installing the ATIH Addon (Bart PE) yesterday, the installation seems to go well, i.e. no errors or installation glitches, but the Addon has not shown up with or in my ATIH2009.

Have I missed something or am I not looking in the right place?

Finally, I also have Disk Directory 10, should I install it along side ATIH2009, and if so what benefits, facilities and/or advantages will I gain?

As someone new to Acronis, I realise that I have probably not supplied enough information for most readers to give a considered opinion. However, I will be more than happy to answer any questions that will clarify my particular problems.

By the way, I have the following equipment:

PC contains Gigabyte motherboard, 2 x 640GB WD Sata HD, Intel i3 540 @3.07GHz CPU, 4GB Ram, WinXP Pro SP3 O/S.

Netgear ReadyNAS Duo V2 with 2 x 2TB WD Caviar Green HD.

I primarily use the NAS to store important files/documents and to backup my two PC HDs on.

Greetings Bob,
Latest build of ATIH 2009 is #9809
Latest build for DD 10 is #2288

If you are not running these two builds, please visit acronis.com and download them from your user acct

When you install the 2009_addons, you are installing the BART PE and Safe Media addons.  These provide options for the type of recover media Acronis can create.  Shortcuts are added to the windows start menu "Bootable Rescue Media Builder", to the recovery media builder within the program and in the Add/Remove Programs Applet in Control Panel... "Media Addon for Acronis True Image Home 2009".

Please also see MVP Mustang's Bart PE builders Guide

If 2009 and DD10 are installed on the same system, you can build recovery media which has both programs, either of which can be run.  I trust that you know what DD does since you own it.

We would need more information in order to help troubleshoot why ASRM will not remain activated across one or more restarts.  Such As;

-Are you using the latest build of ATIH #9809

-Is this an OEM or home built system

-How is the boot disk partitioned

-BIOS settings or Anti-Virus that might prevent the MBR being overwritten

-Disk corruption, problems with ATIH install, etc?

Tell us more and we can try to help.

Hi Shadowsports

Thanks for your speedy input, I will now answer your questions in the order you have asked them:

You asked;

If you are not running these two builds, please visit acronis.com and download them from your user acct.

I have downloaded both applications from my "user acct" but I have only installed ATIH2009.

You mentioned;

"Media Addon for Acronis True Image Home 2009"

I was able to find the attached screen printed items.

You also said;

I trust that you know what DD does since you own it.

Nice presumption but I am still trying to get to grips with these applications. You see, I am new to Acronis and was looking for backup software that was relatively easy to use and did not suffer from "Windows Bloat", plus I have read good things about ATI software.

OK, let's get to your specific questions

1) Are you using the latest build of ATIH #9809?

Yes, I am.

2) Is this an OEM or home built system?

Home Built, I wanted a PC without any obvious built in limitations

3) How is the boot disk partitioned

There is no additional partition on my C:\ drive, this drive is primarily used to hold my applications and my D:\ drive is used for storing data that is constantly in use.

4) BIOS settings or Anti-Virus that might prevent the MBR being overwritten

Yes, that might be a possible solution but because I use CCleaner and Norton Utilities V16 I am guessing that these may be the culprits that are "cleaning up" my MBR and the problem may be something I am going to have to live with.

5) Disk corruption, problems with ATIH install, etc?

Possible but highly unlikely, the first thing I do when I switch on my PC, and sometimes the last thing at the end of the day, I clean up and defrag my HDs (back in the day this was called "PC Housekeeping").

Finally, you said;

Tell us more and we can try to help.

Please note, I am willing to answer any questions that will ultimately help clarify and help my understanding of the Acronis products I have but because I am in a (kind of) fog I do not know what extra information you need in order to help me. However, I will try to fill in some gaps.

OK here is my motivation, my PC was assembled back in 2009/10 (got to check with my wife on this, she's good with dates) and my main aim was to have a machine that will help my immediate and extended family. You see, although I am interested new technology it is not the "be all and end all" of my computer usage, my family and it's requirements must always come first. Therefore, I require something that will help to restore (or help rebuild) my PC when the inevitable happens.

And finally, I only use software that proves useful and does not upset or destabilise my PC and, again, I do not upgrade for upgrade sake.

Hope my answers help.
