Installation on Win 7 Pro. Can same license be used within the Virtual XP that is on the same machine?

Thread needs solution

If I have an upgraded license for 2012 on my computer running Windows 7 Pro SP1, can the same license be used for running ATIH 2012 on the Virtual XP drive that is built into the computer with Windows?

Greetings bocabean5,
While this type of usage is certainly grey, installation of Acronis under the VM does constitute a seperate install and activation.

May I suggest that you use your installed product this way. Make one or more complete images of your windows installation. The entire disk. Get your XP-Mode VM installed, configured and running the way you want it. Make a back up of this file. Going forward you will always be able to revert and restore to the original VM should your installed XP-Mode VM become corrupt or unuseable.

This will ensure you are using the software in accordance with the license agreement.

Hello bocabean5, and shadowsports,

Thank you for finding time to open a thread regarding this question.

Bocabean5, shadowsports is right: the best way to use one license on the machine is to backup your VM  as files, as according to the License Policy you need 1 license per 1 machine, either physical or virtual. Thus using the same serial key on the virtual machine will be a violation of the License Policy.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

Understood. Makes sense. So the virtual file will just back up within the image file that I create. Works for me.

Thank you.
