Installing ATIH 2011 over ATIH v.11.0 (build 8,053)
Hi,
My question relates to the Bootable Rescue Media Builder disk.
In the past I once experienced failure of a Rescue disk which had not been created with the then current version and build of ATIH. I have since learned my lesson and create a new disk each time Acronis is upgraded.
Now, it would appear that Version 2011 will install into the same folder as Version 11 and, presumably, will overwrite existing files within that folder and subfolders.
Once 2011 is installed and I have created a new Bootable Rescue Media Builder disk, will I be able to use this disk to restore previous existing partition images created by ATIH Version 11 (build 8.053)? I suspect the answer must be yes, but in view of my past experience I would like some reassurance that this is indeed the case before I proceed with the installation of version 2011. The Bootable Rescue Media Builder disk has saved my bacon on a number of occasions without me being forced to reinstall everything from scratch so I am anxious not to be caught out again.
Thank you,
Mike

Hello Michael!
Thank you for finding time to join us on forum, we're glad to greet you here! I will be glad to address your question.
The bootable media of the Acronis True Image Home 2011 will definitely be able to recover the images made with the help of version 11. You can find the backup compatibility table in this KB article.
We would also advise you to download the latest updated version of the bootable media from your account, burn it onto the CD and proceed with using. Downloading the ISO bootable media from your account page you can be sure that you have the latest updated version with the latest drivers added.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!

Hi Yana and MudCrab,
Many thanks to you both for responding so quickly and for your very helpful input.
I'm feeling much more confident now about the way forward.
I really don't know what I would do without Acronis True Image Home - I've been relying on it since version 6.
However, to be honest, I doubt whether I would have upgraded on this occasion had I not heard about the 'Plus Pack' for ATIH 2011 and its ability to restore to different hardware. It's high time someone developed this capability. I remain perfectly happy with XP Home and it's unlikely I will migrate to W7 before 2014 when support for XP Home is withdrawn. However, the longer I carry on, the greater the risk that some vital component like the MoBo will fail and I would be forced to reinstall everything. I have quite a complex setup encompassing all manner of hefty installations including highly customized flight simulations, astronomy packages, imaging and audio suites, to mention but a few. In fact this PC of mine fulfils all my needs (well, almost!) bar filling the proverbial kitchen sink! The thought of having to start over with potentially weeks of reconfiguration and optimization just doesn't bear thinking about. I don't need the hassle: hence my concerns about preserving the usefulness of my backup images.
Regards,
Mike :)

Michael,
To ensure your best chances of recovery, be sure you retain some backups which are full disk backups that include all your partitions inside your backups.
It is also important that you do some occasional check disk for errors
chkdsk c: /r
Sometimes, TIH is resistant when the backup contains file or disk errors. Your best backup is one free of that type errors. Most certainly, a validation of some your backups is important so you know that any of your backups will pass validation.

Hi GroverH,
Good advice. I believe I am covered in those areas.
I've lost count of the number of times I've run Chkdsk on all my partitions over the past few years. It's almost a routine these days and possibly one of many reasons why my system remains so stable. I probably overdo it, but it has never resulted in any problems. I haven't had to reinstall/repair XP Home 32bit for 5 years. I've learned a great deal in that time, overcome countless hiccups and those that defied all my troubleshooting efforts were resolved by the restoration of a recent good backup. ATI backups have got me up and running again relatively quickly on many occasions. I know how to maintain a clean system and performance is rarely an issue.
Can anyone reassure me about Version 2011? I've been reading some of the other posts in this forum and they do give rise to some genuine concerns. I haven't installed it as yet. Pity it couldn't be installed alongside my current version and then I could simply apply the patches/fixes until everyone agrees that it is stable and can be relied upon once again.
Has anyone tried restoring an image to different hardware using the 'Plus Pack'?
Regards,
Mike
System spec:
ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 (AM2CPU Board), AMD Athlon 64X2 6400+ (BE,3200MHz,Windsor), Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-6400 4-4-4-12(2T) (Dual Channel), NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB (DDR3) (Forceware 197.45 WHQL), SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum (Drivers version 6.00.0001.1371), Antec NeoHE 650W PSU, Windows XP Home Edition (SP3), DirectX 9.0c
As you can see, it's now far from being the latest and greatest but it runs everything I need just fine.
