integration into windows
I have W7 64bit. I had TIH integrated into windows. Being brave, or foolish, I down loaded and install the new build. Checking things I found the option to integrate was available so I had a look in control panel and TIH was still intergraded. Should there be an option to un-integrate it? If so the update appears to have messed it up and if so how do I un-integrate if need be?

I forgot I had done it! I have unselected the options but windows back up etc. do not run in control panel now. It’s no great issue as I do image backups from a USB boot not from windows, just annoying

I'll see if my installation will de-integrate this afternoon. Unticking the options should revert back to Microsoft Backup and Restore, after Control Panel has been closed and reopened..

John,
I see what you mean, it is broken again, I'll alert Acronis.
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können
It is a “small” thing but it does rather make a bit of mockery of the long post by Alain in http://forum.acronis.com/forum/25521#new saying how they were getting much better at not messing things up! I wish they would listen and split the product up into selectable install component’s as well as actually test them well.

John,
The registry fix is here.
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können
I ran the fix and nothing.
Colin for me this is a fix for the wrong thing. I do not have ATIH still showing in control panel, I do not have any thing there the shortcut does nothing. I can put ATIH in place the windows backup but remove it from TI and windows backup isn’t put back just a dead link.
Sorry my original post didn't make it cleare as untill I looked at the "fix" I wasn't that clear my self!

John,
Are you saying that the registry fix doesn't re-enable the Microsoft backup and restore shortcut?
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können
No the hyperkinks are dead. If I actavate ATIH they briing it up, if I deactavate in ATIH the hyerlinks are dead. Its what I meant when saying "do not run in control panel now" above

The problem is the current ResourceDLL and ResourceID entries:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B98A2BEA-7D42-4558-8BD1-832F41BAC6FD}\Instance\InitPropertyBag]
"ResourceID"=dword:0018fc98
"ResourceDLL"=hex(2):00,00
Should be:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B98A2BEA-7D42-4558-8BD1-832F41BAC6FD}\Instance\InitPropertyBag]
"ResourceID"=dword:00000014
"ResourceDLL"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,\
00,74,00,25,00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,\
73,00,64,00,63,00,70,00,6c,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,00,00
Or as manual regedit entries:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B98A2BEA-7D42-4558-8BD1-832F41BAC6FD}\Instance\InitPropertyBag]
ResourceID = 14 as hexadecimal value (20 as decimal value)
ResourceDLL = %SystemRoot%\System32\sdcpl.dll as REG_EXPAND_SZ value
A reboot may be required to establish those corrected values for system usage after entry.
This minor registry change is pretty safe. But jeez, if Acronis "fixes" can't even handle an extremely simple registry item like this reliably and correctly, it sure doesn't bode well for ever arriving at installer and "cleanup" packages that can properly handle big, horribly complicated tasks like managing device class filters and drivers without blue screen death traps. Sheesh!

Thanks, I edited my saved registry keys (pasted in) , saved under a new name but when I ran it have been told Cannot import ...Not all data was successfully written the registry etc Its going from bad to worse!
I really regret enabling the integration and what it has done
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können
Ahah! I was afraid of that. There's nothing wong with the changes as such. It's because the permissions that have been (re)set on that registry key exclude normal editing and merging. In fact, I think it even excludes admin editing/merging by the "well-known SID" Administrator and is limited to the SYSTEM and its trusted intaller only.
Not sure that I can help you with that unless, like myself, you are able to boot into a Windows preinstallation environment with SYSTEM privileges. Can you? If not, I may be able to find something in the policy settings, but it gets very tricky at that point.
Trying to fix Acronis "fixes" gets crazier by the minute! And some people just can't understand why they sometimes get yelled at in unflattering terms by frustrated users who feel betrayed by a "rescue" product that not only fails to "rescue", but can actually put their system into worse condition than it was before. Some of the vacuuous, pseudo-intellectual platitudes offered in response probably don't help much to "calm the waters" either -- especially the "your numbers and complaints are relatively insignificant" ones. I almost replied to one of those myself, but took my own advice and let it go.

Colin
As I have no idea what "Windows preinstallation environment " I don't think so.
I will try safe mode and see if that gets me any where.
John
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können
Don't think Safe Mode will give you SYSTEM privileges on the registry, but worth a try I guess. You might need to change the registry key ownership. See http://www.howtogeek.com/77878/take-ownership-of-or-assign-full-permiss… Let us know how it goes, please.
Just forget that I mentioned Windows PE. If you're not familiar with it, it's not worth even thinking about.
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können
You are right safe mode gets nowhere.
I have used ATIH for some years, I tried another backup this year but gave up as it just kept on needing me to change things to work, The issues I have had with ATIH have been niggling ones over the years. The incredible bloating and near, for me, useless add-ons that are imposed etc. Even this corruption it’s done isn’t as bad as some are suffering with 2012 but as you say a backup program is something you just want to work and hope never to need to use but again if you do need to restore to work again.

Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful, John. The changes are correct if you can get the needed permissions on that registry key somehow. Maybe Acronis will fix their fix when they see this, but who knows? I sure don't.

Used the link and the edited registry went in this time. Do I need to change it back at all as still nothing happening in control panel.
Its clearly more than just this part of the registy they have messed up.
John
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können
That change, if successful, should fix the problem with the Control Panel > Backup and Restore issue. The ResourceDLL must be a REG_EXPAND_SZ entry for the system to use the %SystemRoot% variable properly. Is the sdcpl.dll file present in your \Windows\System32 folder? Did you reboot after the registry edit?
You don't need to revert the permissions changes so long as they still allow SYSTEM/Trusted Installer modifications.

YES YES its worked now. I must have done something wrong in updating the reg file I made. Being dyslexic I totally failed to see what but I went through the whole thing again and IT WORKED.
Many thanks Collin for so much help pity its need when clearly it shouldn’t. But my only satisfaction is my son is replacing his works computers and systems. He looking for commercial programs (not home)for backup management and is looking at other software producers other than Acronis given how poor home has become based on my recent experience with them.
I didn't remove anything from the permitions so if they were there thay still are.
Again Thanks
John
