Kernel requires features not present on the CPU: PAE

Thread needs solution

When I tried to Clone the hard disk of my 10-years old IBM X40 computer, the acronis programme responded: “Kernel requires features not present on the CPU: PAE
The older version (True Image 2012) Worked fine, but I stupid updated the software waiting for the new features - and get them. What shoudl I do?

You could contact support about this issue here: http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html (pursue this as a "recovery" issue and there will be no charge for support).

The error is from the Linux kernel that is being used when the system boots into the Acronis Linux based environment to perform the clone. You should try to perform the clone from your bootable 2013 Rescue Media to see if you get the same message when trying to boot to it (you probably should as the Linux environment will be using the same kernel). This would be a bad situation if your system became non-bootable and you needed to do a restore from the Acronis Rescue Media - hence the suggestion on pursuing this issue as a "recovery" problem.

If you still have your 2012 Rescue Media, you can boot to it and perform your clone while booted to it. In the event that you can not boot to your hard disk, booting to the Acronis 2012 Rescue Media should allow you to restore any backup files created by 2013.

Okay, I have this same IBM X40 computer with the Pentium M Centrino processor. I had upgraded to Win7 (difficult but not impossible) and used an earlier version of Acronis True Image to clone my HDD to an SSD. I just purchased a 128 GB SSD and wanted to clone my current drive to my new SSD but when trying to do so, I get the same error message described by OP. I think I still have the original Acronis disk (I like disks since you loose the program and info at some point after a DL). Anyway, should I uninstall the Acronis 2015 program and then install the earlier program? Is that the only way I can make this work? I was hoping I could use the new program to perform this task. if I can't then I think I'd like to apply for a refund since the only reason I got the new program was to perform this task.

Send a private message to the Anna the forum moderator asking for build 6703. I was told it was a build to address the PAE problem with older processors.

I have the PAE problem too, but I can't figure out how to PM Anna. How do I contact her to get the 6703 build? I used Anna as the user name but it was invalid.

Hi CP Rivers,

please use this link to download no-PAE build. Link will be valid for 2 weeks. a

Thank you,

Hi Sig,

Sent you a private message with the link.

Hello Ekaterina; same problem for me, I have version 2014.  I tried to get the link through live chat but the support agent could not locate it.  I got a case number 02732642.  Could you please send me the link for 2014 version without PAE CPU requirements please so that I can complete a restoral?  Thank you.

I get the PAE error when trying to clone to a larger hard disc in an older Thinkpad t41. I think it is an M processor. I have been using True Image 2016. If you could give the link to the older build that accommodates these older machines, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Jim
