Manual backups and disabling all services - is it possible?

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I have a simple question - what I need to make a full disk backup a couple of times a month and make it manually, at times selected by me. Thus, I don't really need backup scheduling.

I don't use sync functionality, thus I don't really need Sync Manager.

I've noticed True Image starts 3 services on my machine:
- Scheduler2 Service,
- Sync Agent Service,
- Nonstop Backup Service.

In addition, it has also added three apps to be run at startup:
- Scheduler2 Service / schedhlp.exe,
- TibMounterMonitor / TibMounterMonitor.exe,
- TrueImageMonitor / TrueImageMonitor.exe.

The question is if I can disable all those services and startup items safely. As I said what I need is only to have an ability to make manually-initiated backup.

The other question is: do I need any of those to run Try&Decide feature?

Many thanks for your answers.

You can disable nonstop backup, iirc, although it uses very little resource. The others will need to be running or will be started if you start up ATI so shouldn't be disabled.

Full and complete backups can also be created when booted from the TI Recovery CD.

An installation of TrueImage is not a requirement if you wish to do backups from the CD only.

If this is of interest, you could uninstall TI and then run the cleanup utility (link below) to removed all content of TI from your computer. If you choose this removal, be sure and complete a full and complete backup BEFORE you do any removal of the old.--just a good safety precaution.

Thank you for the answers.

It's convenient to have the ATI installed on the HDD so I'd rather keep it than run from CD.

Indeed when I tried to run the backup with services disabled I received an error message saying that scheduler service needed to be active to do so.

I will then switch the services into manual start instead of disabling them. And what about the 'run' section? Do I need those apps to be started automatically?

I don't have ATIH installed to Windows myself on any but a single PC. For the rest, in the case of W7 I use EasyBCD to select ATIH on reboot (it will boot the ATIH bootable ISO, or W7, or I also have XPx64 as another option). Alternatively, you can use XBOOT or YUMI to run the bootable ATIH .iso from your external backup disk (another technique I use for XP computers that won't work with EasyBCD). Just sayin', you don't have to run from CD.

I do the above because I physically remove my backup drives from my computers following my manual backups, to keep them safe from the frequent power issues I have (cuz my UPSes can't protect from a direct lightning strike for example).

The downside of not installing ATIH to Windows for me is that if/when I do need to Mount a .tib file, to gain access to the files on it for any reason, I need to use that one computer where I DO have ATIH installed to do this.
