Mounting an image
I recently reinstalled Windows 7 and reinstalled all apps including True Image.
I set up a backup to run a full disk image followed by daily incrementals, with a new full image after every 14 incrementals. I back up my C drive to a 1 TB external usb drive. On the same drive, different folder, are some backup sets from before I reinstalled windows.
Now for my problem. I am trying to mount an image. True Image gets to the "assigning letters to partitions" stage where the clock spins for a while and then I get a message box saying "cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive."
I periodically need to recover individual files and I used to do it this way and it was great. Now I'm stuck. I can't figure out why I'm getting this message.
As an added bit of information, I tried originally to mount a backup from before the new windows installation and was able to do so. But when I tried to navagate to ...Users\Steve I got a message indicating I didn't have sufficient authority to open that folder. It's my ID so I should be able to open it. I tried setting permissions in the security tab of the backup, but that didn't help. That is when I decided to try mounting a new backup. I would like to mount both new and old, but the new is critically important. I'm concerned about whether I would even be able to use the backup to recover my system. No, I don't have another system or the guts to test the backup process at this time. In the past I have actually recovered my system using True Image, but that was in the good old days a year or so ago.
I would appreciate any insight and/or help anyone can provide.
