Mouse (USB) will not work in ATIH 2011

I've just finsihed putting a system together that includes:

Asus Maximus Hero IV
i5 4670K
Kingston SSD 120 GB
1TB WD Black Caviar HDD

I have a boot CD that has both DD11(build 2121) and ATIH 2011 (build 6942).

The boot CD works fine in my other system. It also works fine in the Hero system except for two issues:

1. about every 3 or 4 boots, it will stop when ATIH is loading its files (black screen, files scrolling as loading, suddenly stops loading).

2. There is (and never has been on the Hero) no mouse support in ATIH. The pointer is there but will not move.

In DD (from the same boot CD) the mouse works great, no issues.

ANy idea as to why it won't work in ATIH?
