Moving to NEW xp home installation

Thread needs solution

Good day to all.

Newbie - please be gentle

Existing machine.

xp home sp3
Acronis True Image 9.0 Home (English)

2 each 160G Hard drives
Disk 1 = "C" Drive (system drive)

Disk 2 = 160G - 2 equal partitions
"D" partition 79G
"E" Partition 79G

I have .tib backup of "C" drive on USB external made with Acronis TI 9.0
I have .tib backup of "D" drive on USB external made with Acronis TI 9.0
I have .tib backup of "E" drive on USB external made with Acronis TI 9.0

NEW machine is

XP Home SP3
Disk 1 = 200G (system)
Disk 2 = 500G (2 equal partitions)
"D" Partition 250G
"E" Partition 250G

I would like to Move, migrate or whatever you call it from the OLD machine to the New machine and not have to re-install ALL existing programs - i.e. have a complete XP Home SP3 system with all the programs that I have on the OLD system.

From what I can tell,

1. I would have to have Acronis TI 2013 and the Plus pack installed on the NEW machine.
2. Would I have to install 2013 and plus pack on the old machine and THEN make backups of "C" "D" "E" drives ( would 2013 READ existing .tib file from OLD acronis TI 9.0)
3. If I purchase the Acronis Family pack ( three machines) would I have to purchase THREE of the Plus packs?

As you can see i pretty confused and would appreciate any assistance or recommendation that you can provide me.

Thanks in advance

captjldd,

First make sure you have made a complete disk image of disk 1 and not just a partition image.

What is different about the new machine in hardware terms?

1. What is best is to use the 2013 recovery CD to restore the old XP image to your new machine, then once restored and all is running well, install the Windows version of True Image. When selecting the restore option you will be able to resize the old partitions to your new size requirement.

2. TI2013 would be able to read your TI9.0 images, however, there is nothing to prevent you from installing TI 2013 on the old machine and making the disk 1 image and restore from that, unless you don't have external space for an extra image, this way you have a double safety net.

3. There is such a thing as Family Plus Pack. The Acronis webpage for purchasing 2013 is confusing, you will find the Family version of True Image 2013 and Plus Pack on this page http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage-family/index.ht…

Even with the Plus Pack installed, I would suggest having a copy of the XP install CD to hand as well.

Colin,

Thank you for your assistance.

Main Difference in new machine is the HD size, Graphics card, Motherboard Memory.

With regards to purchase of Acronis TI 2013- Yes the home page is confusing.

The link you posted seems (to me anyway) to offer "True Image 2013 + Plus Pack" for USD 79.98" i.e.
One TI 2013 License and One Plus Pack License ?
Search shows "True Image 2013 Family Pack (3-Users)"
Amazon = USD 48.00
Staples = USD 79.99
NewEgg = USD 69.99

Acronis
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/#add-migration
site shows "add migration" = $29.99 / License

Very confusing indeed.

Thank you again for your assistance

That is most strange, I could have sworn when I checked that link yesterday, that it showed Family Pack when I pressed the 'buy' button.

If the old system has an OEM licensed windows XP, you need to preserve license files from the new system, or else it will detect change of motherboard and may refuse to activate.

OK, it looks as though Acronis have changed their offer slightly, as when 2013 came out there was a family version of the Plus Pack, so it looks as though you purchase TIH 2013 Family Pack and then purchase the Plus Pack as a separate purchase.

Maybe a support chat with presales might clear things up.
