Must I choose " Make this bootable" when making image?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

When making image backups in 2014 I see an option that says " make this bootable." Must I check this box for each image I make or it won't boot when restored?

I don't recall seeing this option in the other versions of Acronis, maybe it was there all along and I didn't see it. All my other images worked fine. I'd think that an image would contain the MBR etc.

Are my latest images useless because I didn't check that box?

Thanks!

No.

That feature relates to making a target storage usb disk to be bootable. This is ATI bootable in place of the Bootable CD. This option is rarely used. Your not checking the option has not effect on your backups or your restores.

HOWEVER!,
you have a two partition 80GB disk and each partition has a different OS on it.
As a result, one or both may be dependent upon the other for its boot information.

Should you need to restore either C or D, you may find that one or the other or both may also need to be restored in order for your disk to be bootable again.

Note the option at the top of your attachment which reads "switch to disk mode".
If I were you, I would click this option and start making some of your backups to be "disk mode" backups. This would mean that both partitions would be included in the same backup. You have the storage space so space should not be an issue.

Or, if you wanted or needed to move to a different size system disk, a disk mode backups would be very simple to restoe as a disk option restore and both systems would be restored at the same time--most likely without issues.

Therefore, my recommendation would be to switch some of your backups (start a new task with the disk mode being the type of backup) so you also have disk mode backup. YOu can still continue your current backups of single partitions but I would add "disk mode" as one type of backup being done on a regular basis.

Note the first few pictues of link 2 below which illustrates disk mode backups.
