Naming Backup Files

Thread needs solution

Windows 7 (x64)
Acronis True Image 2015

I was using True Image 2010 to backup selected folders and files. I could give the backup files names that I chose.

How can I do this with True Image 2015? It seems that True Image 2015 insists on naming the files without giving me any option.

Click on the little pencil next to the name and away you go!

David

I miss a function to add date and time to a filename. Is there a way to add this automatically?

Albert

Yes, the task will not be able to find the image slice, so it will not be able to add additional images to that archive.

If though, you have made a complete disk or partition image and you don't need to change the archive, then renaming the file in Windows Explorer is fine so long as you delete the corresponding task.

Some general comments:

2015 is acting differently than prior versions in both file deletion and naming.

As user David has indicated,
Renaming old tasks: Click on the little pencil next to the task name (after task selected) and task name can be changed and names of future tib backups acquire the new name. Prior tib backup names remain the old name.

Name assigned to tib file is the same name as the task name. Task name can be renamed and future tib files will have the same rename.

An inspection of the backup script stored in the scripts folder showed that the TIB name is obtained from the @task@.
I ran these rename test using the post #1 pencil rename icon.

1. Created a new files backup task using scheme with full plus dif with cleanup and store 2.
... a. Ran original task backup #1.
... b. Performed a task rename and ran manual backup #2
... c. Performed a 2nd task rename and ran manual backup #3.
... d. Performed a 3rd task rename and ran manual backup #4

Results below: TIB file name is the complete line including all of the sentence The task name is all before the __full or __dif syntax.

Sample-test and more............_full_b1_s1_v1.tib (original task name)
Sample-test and much more..._dif_b1_s2_v1.tib (task rename 1)
Sample_test and much less....._dif_b1_s3_v1.tib (task rename 2)
Sample_test and more............_dif_b1_s4_v1.tib (task rename 3)

Ran a successful validation manually after last backup run.

Test results would seem to indicate limited rename of upcoming backups is possible but changing the name of prior backup is NOT possible if you want the task to continue performing backups.

Edit Update Jan 24:

This innovative link BY USER TomB can help to include a date and execution number as part of the file name.

"volume_location datacenter_id="0" uri="D:\Backups\Acronis Images\@task@.tib" volume_id="0" /"

to

"volume_location datacenter_id="0" uri="D:\Backups\Acronis Images\@task@_@exec@_@date@.tib" volume_id="0" /"

Hello,

As per attached image - I don't seem to have any  "little pencil next to the task name"...and also I'm confused whether this is editing  the task or the name of the backed up file on disk!

Ideally I'd like to be able to to both, but I'm also not sure how one affects the other!

Could you possibly help out?

Many thanks!

Dave

daddave,

see attached picture.

This pencil allows to edit the name of the backup task only.

To edit the task, there is a button "Actions" at the bottom of the Acronis Window (not shown in the attached Picture).

Select the backup configuration from the dark blue list at the left.   In daddave's greenshot.png, for example, that might be SandyC or SevCfull.

Right-click.  If there was a green circle with a white checkmark on the configuration name, select Edit from the context menu.  If there was not a green circle with a white checkmark, select Reconfigure from the context menu.

Wait about 2-3 seconds.  An icon will appear in the image of a pencil to the right of the configuration name.  Select that icon to change the configuration, including changing the name.
