NAS connection problem

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have created a backup to a NAS and it worked OK but only the first time. When an update backup is scheduled (or a manual one is tryied), Acronis cannot connect to the NAS.

I have manually checked "open location" option and it opens the folder in the NAS, so i don't understand why cannot connect when it is scheduled.

Other thing that i don't understadn is why it shows "Versions: 42 (last yesterday)" if this is the first version created. I have created it yesterday for a full backup and i dont see any update file in the NAS folder.

See this screen capture showing the problem http://screencast.com/t/8xALYfFyTh6

Sould i open a support ticket ?

thanks you in advance

I notice a drive letter E: on the "not backed up yet" disk, yet it appears your NAS is a mapped network drive, is this correct?

Assuming above is correct you are attempting to backup drive E: to the NAS both of which have the same name. Wouldn't think that would make any difference but you never know!

If you still have support available I would contact them.

The attachment shows this backup to be Backup #15 (b15) and also shows that the file size is being split into small pieces.
Is this split necessary? The attachment does not show total number of files . Is there 42?

If this is truly backup #1, then maybe your are using the same path and file name as used on priior backups.

Try using a different folder and a different name for the backup file.

Bob, thanks you for your response.

I have mapped the NAS as network drive E:, but i use \\NAS_IP\path\ instead when i created the backup in Acronis.
I would try again deleting the mapped drive.

Thanks you GroverH for youtr response.

>> "The attachment shows this backup to be Backup #15 (b15)
Yes, i dont' know why, may be it is the "drive" backup number 15, but not in this instance, for this instance is the 1st one.

>> and also shows that the file size is being split into small pieces.
Yes, of 650 MB (like a CD).
>> Is this split necessary? The attachment does not show total number of files . Is there 42?"
Maybe it is not neccesary.
No, there are 35 number of files.

>> "If this is truly backup #1, then maybe your are using the same path and file name as used on priior backups."
It is a different path.
>> Try using a different folder and a different name for the backup file."
I have tried that, but it doesn't work.

Victor

I have tried that, but it doesn't work.

Do you mean that the program does not allow you to use a different nane and different folder?
or
Do you mean that you have tried using a different folder and different backup name but the results are still unsatisfacatory?

If and when you try a new task, try not using file size splitting.

Editing or changing a task parameter is to be avoided and the change often leads to results different than expected and editing usually just delays the inevitable starting of a new task.

If you do start a new task, consider the example below as a possability.

Figure 11-Full: Example of custom/full backup method settingsIf using Full backups only, this is a recommended method. These automatic cleanup settings will provide for automatic deletion of the oldest backups after the "Store no more than X number of chains" quota has been reached.
In this example, deletion of oldest backup will occur immediately following creation of backup #5.

Allow space for 1 more full backup in addition to "Store no more than X number of chains" as the program will NOT delete the oldest full until its replacement has been successfully created.

GroverH, thanks you for your detailed response.

The program allow me to use a different folder and name, I have tried that, but the result is the same.

Ok, i will try that.

Some news: It is working now.

The problem was not the mapped drive E: nor the backup splits.

I have changed 1) the backup scheme to incremental (with initial full backup) and 2) i have done as Jeff Salmon explains in http://forum.acronis.com/forum/55065.

Thanks you for your time helping me,
