Non-Stop Backup or Disk Backup?
I am new to Acronis True Image 2011. I am confused by all the options for backing up. I want to be able in a disaster scenario where my PC has crashed and not bootbale, I can recover my complete system back to how it was as quickly as possible. I would also like to be able to recover individual files if accidentally deleted.
It appears that I can use Non-Stop Backup to do this or I can use the 'Backup Critical Data' function with some kind of schedule set up to backup at some interval. Or, do I need to use both?
I am using a 1TB external hard drive for backups.
Help please !!

Thanks for this. I really like the Acronis product having used Norton Ghost 12.0 in the past. There just seems to be so many permutations of how backups can be set up that it becomes confusing. At the moment I have Disk and Partition configured as you have suggested and I also have non-stop backup running. Do I really need both?
Thanks again.

You don't need both. Make sure your recovery CD is working.
If you keep both, you'd better make them on different disks. I have Win7 ultimate backup running in parallel with ATI on different disks at different times.

Pat,
OK, I will use Non-Stop Backup as my main Backup to my external 1TB hard drive. I have checked my Recovery CD by doing an F12 and Booting from CD. The Acronis Recovery interface window opens so I guess I am OK from there on. Maybe I will recover a specific file to be 100% sure it is all working OK.
Thanks for your help. Really appreciated.

If you use NSB with ATI 1011, make sure you use the partition mode to enable system recovery. If I were you, I would use a regular disk and partition backup to make absolutely sure that all the partitions of your system disks are included. If, when you look at your disk management console, you have only partitions that NSB sees (eg C:\), you are fine. If you have only one hidden partition (system reserved), you are also fine with NSB in partition mode. If there are other hidden partitions, use a regular all-partition disk and partition backup and include them.

Pat,
OK. I have NSB showing OS:/c, and the Disk & Partition Backup showing OS:/c (from within the Disk & Partition backup, I can select the Files & Folders tab and get to my individual files)
I seem to be sorted now. Thanks for your help.
(Incidentally whilst carrying out the Disk & Partition Backup I received an error message from Acronis saying that it had 'failed to read from a Sector on Hard Disk 1 and also it had failed to read a snapshot'. I contacted Acronis Chat Support. This is a great support service. I was asked to run the Windows chkdsk routine which found and fixed the bad sectors on my 'c' drive. Back up now works fine.)
Thanks again.

Geoff,
From the start menu, run C:\Windows\System32\compmgmt.msc, double click storage, then disk management.
Look at your system disk. Make sure there is only the C:\partition there.
