Nonstop Backup conflicts
I have just upgraded to version 2010 and am a little confused regarding Nonstop Backup (NSB): some users in this forum say that it can be run while defragmenting the protected partitions, others that it cannot. I would very much appreciate an Acronis representative to answer the following questions. I am working under Windows XP.
(a)Can NSB be running during defragmentation of the protected partitions?
(b)Can NSB be running during a Windows chkdsk operation on the protected partitions?
(c)Must I stop NSB before restoring an Acronis backup (a *.tib file) to the protected partitions?
(d)Must I stop NSB before resizing the protected partitions?
Finally, for anyone familiar with RollBack Rx: can I restore a RollBack snapshot to the protected partitions with NSB running?

I am not from Acronis, but maybe I can help.
a) Yes. You will find that NSB only scans the drive, it isn't constantly imaging. I believe it's algorithm is slightly different in how it recognise changes on the drive. In other words, I don't think it looks at changed sectors in the same way as a standard image does.
I have run NSB both in beta and released versions with Perfect Disk 10pro and O&O Disk Image both set for auto defragmentation (though not both at the same time obviously), with no problems and no large extra images made. Don't forget that by default the W7 defragmenter runs automatically every 3 reboots anyway.
b) Yes, though what NSB does if errors are found on the partition and corrected I am yet to find out.
c) Not sure what you mean here, do you mean a NSB recovery or a standard TI tib image?
d) Windows wouldn't be running in this case as you would be in Linux mode (even if you started from the Windows environment, so the point is moot. I would expect NSB to notice the partition has changed but whether it would remake the protectd image(s) would probably be down to differeing factors. This is something I never thought of testing, others may have done.
Can't help you with Rollback X as I hadn't heard of it until your post. :)

Bodgy, thank you for your reply.
Yes, I did mean a standard TI tib image.
In the meanwhile, I did a snapshot restore with RollBack without any apparent adverse effects, and I assume that a standard TI tib image recovery would be equally innocuous.
Frode, you are probably right. Why do you think such a high-quality product has such low-quality support?

I don't consider it a high quality product, to be honest. It's pretty bug ridden and has some extremely poor design decisions. Making the wrong choice when it comes to support seems par for the course.
