Not enough server storage is available to process this command

Thread needs solution

Does anyone have a workable answer to the error message \\Computer Name\Drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command. when I try to access a computer running the Acronis True Image Home 2010 application.

I have 5 computers on my home network and I get the above message when I try to access the 1 computer running the Acronis True Image Home 2010 from the other 4. The computer running the Acronis True Image Home 2010 application can access all of the other 4 computers and they in turn can access each other but cannot access the computer running the Acronis True Image Home 2010 application.

After considerable research on the web as to how to solve this problem, I came upon the Microsoft Article ID: 913628, however all of the values were as they should be. I then found the Acronis Knowledge Article: 1554 indicating it could be a problem with the IRPStacksize. As the article indicated you could increase the value up to 50 and still not resolve the problem and that is exactly what happened to me. When I clicked on the contact Acronis Customer Central highlight in the knowledgebase article it sent me to the Customer Service & Support page which basically gave me the option of paying for support or using the Support Forum so that’s why I’m here.

However when I was researching the forum I found post #5357 whereby the last poster solved the problem by completely removing the True Image application from his system. Even though the poster’s solution can be considered as extreme, I found it was the only way I could once again gain access to the computer in question from all of the other computers on the network. I also understand this problem has been around for a while and that the issue has not been adequately addressed by the Acronis developers. I find that hard to believe and I hope someone within the Acronis community has come up with an answer that has resolved the problem.

My network configuration is:

Machine #1 (Machine running Acronis True Image Home 2010)
Operating System: XP Pro w/SP3
4 hard drives

Machine #2
Operating System: XP Pro w/SP3
4 hard drives

Machine #3
Operating System: XP Pro w/SP3
3 hard drives

Machine #4 (Laptop)
Operating System: XP Pro w/SP3
1 hard drive

Machine #5
Operating System: Windows 2000 w/SP4
2 hard drives

The problem is with the LanmanServer on your XP system. You will need to make a registry change to fix this. See the following KB articles on the Microsoft site.

Thanks for the response Ted.

However please note in paragraph #3 where I mentioned that I increased the IRPStacksize to 50 and I still was unable to access the computer from other computers on the network. I did that using both of the Microsoft KB articles you referenced along with http://www.exlade.com/how-to-increase-irpstacksize.

After installing Acronis True Image 2010, the network connections were destroyed with the "NOT ENOUGH SERVER STORAGE ERROR".  I've run Acronis True Image 2009 previously and no problem. THE ONLY CHANGEPOINT WAS INSTALLING TRUE IMAGE 2010.

IT LOOKS LIKE ACRONIS DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS BUG AND ADMINISTRATORS MUST GO TO A WEB SITE CALLED ' PCHELL.COM' TO GET A REGISTRY FIX!!!

THUS ADMIN'S ARE GOING THROUGH 'HELL' TO FIX THE BUG WHEN ACRONIS SHOULD BE FIXING IT AS A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THIS IS A POOR STANCE FROM ACRONIS NOT TO ACKNOWLEDGE TO FIX! PASSING THE BUCK TO MICROSOFT IS UNACCEPTABLE.

UNFORTUNATELY, ADMIN'S HAVE TO CREATE A LANMAN SERVER STACK IRPStack DWORD (X).  WHERE 'X' IS A VALUE FROM 16-50.

NOTE - ON WWW.PCHELL.COM LOTS OF ADMIN'S ARE STATING ACRONIS HAS CAUSED THE PROBLEM AFTER INSTALLING TRUE IMAGE 2010 AND SOME ADMIN'S HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL TO FIX AND OTHERS NOT.  HOWEVER, AT LEAST WWW.PCHELL.COM AND WWW.WINHLP.COM   GIVES SUPPORT ON THE ISSUE AS OPPOSED TO ACRONIS.

I SHALL NOT BE PURCHASING THE NEXT ACRONIS UPGRADE DUE TO THE POOR STANCE ACRONIS IS TAKING ON THIS ISSUE, UNLESS THEY STEP UP TO THE PLATE TO FIX IT.

I would agree. All my networked computers would not communicate with each other this morning. After some searching I found the problem was a recent installation of Acronis 10. Pity, the program works well. But once I completely uninstalled Acronis 10, all network communications were reestablished again.

The error message was "Not enough server storage." I installed the IRPStacksize and set the value to 15. This is not the solution! Unfortunately, the solution was to uninstall Acronis.

When will this problem be solved?

Values can go up to 50. I needed about 23.

The IRPStackSize issue can be caused by various programs such as Norton it is not a TI specific issue.

in my case Acronis is the culprit. after installing Acronis True image 2010, immediately i got this problem. pls see attached file...

Update:

resolved the issue by using below IRPStackSize value:

30 (hexa) or 48 (decimal)

nevertheless, i agree with Carl, Acronis should make a patch about this issue with their software.

This is a Windows issue and is not limited to Acronis. Other programs may also cuase this. See http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=8289.

ABSOLUTELY NOT AN ISSUE CAUSED BY MICROSOFT.

THE OLDER VERSION OF ACRONIS DID NOT CAUSE A SERVER STORAGE ERROR AND THIS WAS WITHOUT AN 'IRPSTACKSIZE' DWORD EVEN WRITTEN IN THE REGISTRY. SO ITS COMPLETE NONSENSE TO SUGGEST IT IS A 'WINDOWS' PROBLEM, WHEN ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 10, WORKED WITHOUT PROBLEMS AND THE REGISTRY HAD NO 'IRPSTACKSIZE' IN EXISTANCE AT ALL.

THEREFORE, WHEN IS ACRONIS GOING TO ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX A CHANGEPOINT 'BUG' IN TRUE IMAGE 2010, BY ISSUING A PROPER FIX/ BUILD UPDATE AS A PROPER CUSTOMER SERVICE?

WE HAVE SPENT OUT HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THE NEW VERSION AND THERFORE SHOULD EXPECT PROPER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NOT LIP SERVICE BLAMING MICROSOFT FOR THE ISSUE.

PLEASE FIX THE PROBLEM FIRST HAND WITH A PROPER BUILD UPDATE.

This is in fact a Microsoft setting that may need to be adjusted. Anyone that has dealt with backup exec or any other high processing application has come across this issue. In all cases by changing the IRPStacksize usually resolves the problem, but you have to look at several other items as well to see if there are other factors.

Acronis installs several components and those components interact with other systems on your computer. Depending on what you have installed on your computer in conjunction with the type of Anti-Virus/Anti-SPAM software, the results are mixed as to the culprit.

Being someone who has been using Acronis for many many years I have come across this issue with virtually all versions and products that Acronis develops.

Acronis could have caused the straw that broke the camel’s back, but is usually not the culprit. The culprit is usually the number of applications and/or the anti-virus application that is running on a system. In my experience Symantec, McAfee and Trend-Micro are 3 of the most common anti-virus applications that are very restrictive on a PC. Also, having enough temp storage available on your system to perform a backup is as much a key than the applications running. If you are trying to backup a very large drive and do not have enough temp storage space you will run out of temp space before completing the backup.

The error specified the word "command". A command is usually very small, but the results of the command can vary in size. It is true that 2010 uses more resources than 2009. I have had many a conversation with Acronis about this, but also with Symantec as well. In Google, type "Symantec Not enough server storage is available to process this command" and you will find a plethora of similar issues noted for Symantec as well.

Here are a few tips to help resolve this issue. There may be other steps you may need to take to help with resource availability.
1) Clean out Temp folders (C:\Windows\Temp; C:\%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp and Temporary Internet Files).
2) Ensure that the hard drive is not too fragmented. Run Disk defragmenter at least weekly.
3) Set your Internet browser to delete temporary internet files when you close the browser.
4) Add the following exception masks to the Acronis backup (*.~, *.bak, *.tmp, pagefile.*, hiberfil.*)
pagefile.* and hiberfil.* are very large system files that are recreated on start up if needed and do not need to be backed up.
5) Ensure you have plenty of space for the backup process. If your drive is less than 25% then you need to;
    a) Get a bigger drive
    b) Add a drive to your system and then move your personal files to the extra drive
    c) Clean old files off of your system (Item 1)
    d) Remove any applications that start up when the computer starts. They can be started from the Programs menu if needed
        1. Start --> All Programs --> Start up. These usually do not need to be running and rob your system of resources
        2. Start --> Run --> {Type} msconfig --> {press enter} remove application that you absolutely do not need running.
***** Make sure you do not remove your anti-virus startup apps. *****

These are only a few things that can help you keep your computer running it's best.

Before you state that a product is causing an issue do more research. This setting is a Microsoft system setting and over the years applications are using more and more resources which is causing some of these settings to need readjusting. Only readjust what you need, but more importantly ensure that you have a good running system.

If all else fails:
1) Uninstall Acronis
2) Clean up your system
3) Run a defrag
4) Reinstall Acronis

As drastic as it may be, it just might be the fastest way to resolve the issue. As for not being able to see other machines could be an issue with the firewall as well. Many applications share components and the sharing of these components could very well cause this type of adverse issue.
