Not sure if I recovered using Image I created or just some older system restore point

Hello, I have hat ATI for many months and have used only for backup never for imaging - until today. After creating bootable cd, then backing up my system, then booting from cd and choosing recovery, I found the backup image, and let it proceed to replace my c partition (brave or stupid, I don't know - I wanted to see what would happen in a worst case).

When complete ket it shut down, rebooted from C, saw the windows logo but then got blue screen of death and a message thatn windows was shut down to prevent problems. Twice. Three times. OMG I thought. But then I decided to avail of the Windows startup menu and chose "Last known good" configuration.

Question: Was this choice really and truly the proper way to avail of the image itself -- or has this merely taken me back to some kind of system restore point and I cannot rely on this to be the recovery of the image I had been intending?
