ODD PROBLEM TRYING TO BACKUP WIN 7 SYSTEM PARTITION??

Thread needs solution

Hi from Scotland UK

I'm using 2010 home edition to try and backup my Windows 7 fresh install but I'm hitting a problem?

Previously in my installation, I had my Swapfile split between the C Drive(System) and my D Drive (Seperate HDD).
I tried to use Acronis to backup my Windows install but both these drives came up as needing to be backed up...not just teh C Drive.

I thought..AH!
Its because the D Drive is registered in Windows as being used for the Swapfile...so I'll just disable that in Windows settings (use C Drive only), reboot and all should be ok.

Uhm...no.

Thinking again I searched the registry for any Non C Drive entries realting to the Swapfile, found a couple and edited them out.
That should do it, just a reboot.

No...same problem.
The D Drive is 1TB and I dont have the space to back THAT up!
I've ran out of ideas....can anyone help please?

Thanks.

Hi from the USA,
You should consider maintaining a least one ongoing backup of everything on the Win7 disk--not just the C partition.
When performing a backup, check mark the "disk" option.

Sorted...

The original problem was that the hard drive boot order had changed in the BIOS for some reason, and Windows had assigned a boot sector to my D Drive..

Thats what was confusing Acronis.
Rejigged the BIOS, did a Startup Repair with my Win7 DVD..and I was back in windows and able to backup my Windows Install in Acronis.

Wha-hey!
