Ok to cancel a consolidation?

Thread needs solution

I decided to consolidate a set of backups without reading anything about the process. It just seemed like a good idea. But it says the process is going to take 1 day 18 hours 16 minutes. (This is the 3rd estimate. Each has been longer than the previous estimate, so I predict I'll eventually see an even longer estimate.) Is there any danger in cancelling this process?

Once the cancellation has begun, it would be very unwise to stop it as it could cause the loss of some of your backups.

A better choice would be to stop using the existing task and then create a new task with automatic cleanup (per these custom scheme examples).

Determine how mnay chains you want to keep and then set your "store X number of chains accordingly. When the program reaches your X number of chains to keep, then the older chains will be deleted automatically by the program.

Using the above, no consolidation settings are involved and the backup storage is determined by you. Editing an task being used causes problems so get try and get the setting right before you start using the new task. Point the new task to a new and empty storage folder so there is no mixing of backup files from different tasks.
