Old version cleanup - size of backup - not working

Thread needs solution

I have a 1.5 Gb backup drive of which about 900 Gb is available. I'm backing up a 260 Gb hard drive.

Created new backup job, incremental backup, create full version every 5 incremental versions.

Old version cleanup rules: Keep size of backup no more than 875 Gb.

Runs dozen days in a row (2 full back ups, 10 incremental each) then complains 3/4 of the way through a full backup that it is out of space.

I've read posts that say the way to fix this sort of problem is to delete the backup job and set it up from scratch. I've done that twice.

What do I have to do, gainsay the backup and tell it to keep the backup smaller than 600 Gb?

Why won't it recognize that it has gone over 875 Gb and it needs to delete a chain in the midst of the current backup operation?

Is there any chance you have edited the backup task? If yes, this may have caused the issue. I have found that it more reliable to use the option to keep x number of recent version chains rahter than the option based on space.

My suggestion would be cease to use that task and create a new backup task point to a new storage sub-folder. When determining amount of available storage space, keep in mind that TI will not delete the oldest backup until after the replacement has been created. As a result of this "feature", you will need to allow temporary space for one extra full backup.
