Online Backup installer hangs at "Checking for new version"
I'm trying to install the Acronis Online Backup software on a couple of computers here at home, but the installation stalls at the "Checking for new version" step. I can't skip this check as it seems, so the installation can't get any further. I'm having this problem on other computers also (all Windows 7 32bit), two other computers at antother location had no problems with the installation using the same account.
Can it be a DNS problem, I tried chaning the DNS server settings for my internet connection with no result. Internet connection works fine.

Does anyone have other ideas about this problem? I still have not managed to find a solution. I tried disabling the Window Firewall all together, and adding the installer to the list of programs allowed to bypass the firewall.
Is there a way to skip the "check for new version" step of the installation? I tried different internet connections (wifi and wired) without success.

Hello,
bin, thanks for the assistance.
Andrea, let me help you.
It seems that there something specific in network settings in your location, for example, some ports may be blocked by your internet provider. Please have a look at this KB article and make sure that you can access necessary ports and hostnames.
If the issue still persists, please collect AcronisInfo and submit a support request.
Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.
Thank you.

I have exactly the same problem here, installing on a new Netbook (Asus Eee 1201HA). I sucessfully installed it on 4 other machines on the same network (our home network) some months ago without trouble. Didn't change the network setup or router config in the meantime.
Tried disabling Norton Intyernet Security during the install, to no avail. Did you find a solution?

Hi, tried today to submit a support request with the required AcronisInfo.zip file, but that failed with a "413 Request Entity Too Large" message (files is 1,47 Mb large).
What now?
Correction: tried once again, replacing the "ç" (c cedilla) in my name by a plain "c", and now it has passed....
Update: despite this error message, the report was actually submitted => result: 4 duplicate reports ;-) Sorry for that

I purchased Family Pack of Acronis True Image Home 2011 and downloaded Build 6696 (ATIH2011_6696_en-US), which is the latest version. I tried to install the program on an old Windows XP Home PC with 384Mb RAM with a single 800mhz Intel cpu (no mulitple cores). The program would not install. It would hang-up on "checking for new version". According to Task Mgr, CPU utilization was typically at 100%. I ran installation program at least a dozen times, sometimes for as long as 30 to 40 minutes, but failed every time. System seemed to be in an infinite loop and hung up on "checking for new version" until I terminated TIH 2011 with Task Mgr or shut down system. I did check Ilya's post (Posts 1360) as Anton Deev (Acronis Moderator) suggested and all 3 ports and associated hostnames are accessible. I would like to bypass "checking for new version" step, and install TIH 2011, but cannot. Is it possible that only having 384mb RAM and 1 800mhz Intel CPU is the cause of my problems? Minimum system requirements for TIH 2011 according to Acronis Web page is 512mb RAM and a 1ghz processor or faster.

Heeeelp! I have THE SAME problem. I try to install into
my second machine (Netbook Atom) and the installation
stops at the same point: Checking for new version...
It´s not a firewall problem, DNS or Internet. Please,
send me a concrete solution for this issue.

Use an archive tool (7-zip) to extract the AcronisOnlineBackup.msi from the EXE file.
Then manually run the msi file like this: msiexec /i c:\pathto\AcronisOnlineBackup.msi
This will bypass the version check screen.

I conveniently skipped over the \pathto\ portion of the instructions, and of course it failed.
Then I just double-clicked the .msi file and it worked fine. Windows 7 Enterprise.
Thanks, Danny!

I was wrong. It backs out. And running from the command line fails, too. Phooey.
