Paid Acronis 2012 backup - but now need to recover image with free software

Thread needs solution

Good sirs.

I backed up my C drive onto another drive using true image 2012.

Then yesterday I tried to recover the image ONTO the C drive.
Rebooted as instructed.
But everything looked frozen. No mouse control - no progress bar...
I waited 10 minutes and hard rebooted so I could try again.

Apparently the image transfer was in progress, because now I have an unbootable C drive!

So I'm taking both drives to a second working computer...
can I recover my drive from a free version of true image?

Thanks

The recovery of your system partition is best done when booted using the user create True Image bootable Recovery CD. If you do not have such a CD, it can be created from downloadable iso file from your own personal Acronis account--assuming that you registered your purchase.

If by "free" you mean the trial version, the trial version requires an installation before a CD can be created. If by "free" you mean the Seagate or WD version, the answer is probably no those vendor versions are older version and older version will not restore a newer version.

In Summary,
If you have made a 2012 bootable CD, then use it for the restore. If you did not, then contact an Acronis moderator and request he send you a private message link to a downloadable 2012 trial version Acronis bootable Recovery CD. Once you have a 2012 trial version CD, it can be used for Recovery purposes.

Thank you sir.
Sounds like I have to have a DVD drive.
Was hoping to avoid that...
Oh well. On the way to Fry's electronics to get one.

David,
TI can also create a bootable flash driveor usb drive so the purchase of a CD device is not required. check out the option in the installed TrueImage under the "Create bootable media" module.

The pre-insertion of a flash drive will make the option available. (anything drive larger than 256k)
