Thread needs solution

My System XP SP3

I have Acronis True Image Home 2009, and performed a full back up to an external usb HDD October 2011, creating a 6 gig tib file. I performed a full system restore (using the same Oct 2011 file) in February 2012 with no problems. Today I have to perform a system restore again (using the same file from Oct 2011). I clicked "restore", then "browse for backup", then "Restore whole disks and partitions" pointed to the tib file on the usb drive. Under "content selection", i clicked "Disk 1" and it automatically checked "NTFS (unlabled c:) and "mbr and track 0" (which i have no idea what mbr and track 0 means). then the partition destination box popped up asked me to select the disk. i chose the unallocated disk1 (not the usb hdd disk 2) . Then clicked Next. The "Congratulations" box popped up and it asked me to click summary, which i did.

Then the summary operations box popped up, saying the following: Restoring partition, hard disk 1, drive letter c:>h, file system ntfs, volume lable (blank), size 111 gb. i then clicked "Proceed"

Then the "operation progress" box popped up and the restore started - 1 of 1 restoring partition - 34 minutes remaining, the countdown continued, 15 mins, 10, 8, 5, then it stops with an error message "Restore operation failed". no other messages given. I have tried this 4 times with the same result.

I need help badly. Thank you

Anthony

Have you tried copying the backup file(s) to a new location (a different drive, for example)? Does Windows report an error? A chkdsk /r scan may help if there are bad sectors, but I'd try copying the backups off first.

Are you using the same build of TI you used in February? Newer builds usually work fine with older images, but there are cases when there are problems.

What does it say in the log when it fails?
