Please locate the last volume of the backup...

Thread needs solution

I'm in Windows Explorer, looking at my drive/dir with all my image files in windows7. I am using Acronis v2010.

I click the + next to a backup file. Another window opens asking "Please locate the last volume of the backup"? What? This is the only volume of the backup, it's a full backup file.

I click cancel and then it asks me for the password of the backup, I enter it. Sometimes I can see the backup files, other times it totally locks the Explorer window and I have to kill it.

I can make an full disk image backup and restore it to a hard drive* using the Recovery disk. That is about all that works right in Acronis v2010 that I have tried.

* although there are issues with restoring to an SSD "hard drive"

How can Acronis put out a product like this? And take our money?

George keeping up with your multiple posts is going to get me fit in no time. :)

It is obvious there is something very strange with your installation, as you can see I have W7 64 bit, as do others and as they haven't reported having the same problems, some major detective work needs to occur. I can't recall seeing your sector 0 problem on an SSD before.

The fact that it half works and then stops points to either some other background program or Acronis is creating a race condition or something major has gone astray with the install.

It would be most helpful if you could post some W7 snips of what you see, when TI suffers a siezure.

Have you raised a support ticket yet on these problems or are you outside the 30 day support timeframe?

What does the TI log say if anything?

You might have to run the Acronis system info utility and when Acronis see your post they might require the installation to be logged (don't have the instruction link to hand at this second).

I'm not sure why in Explorer you are seeing a '+' sign. I've attached some snips of what you should be seeing on a W7 system.

How have you installed Acronis as an All Users or just your logon?

Do you have the W7 UAC still enabled?

Do you have Admin permissions or running ad Administrator (they are not the same).

Have you used any registry utility that either gives you extra gizmos or has cleaned the registry.

Has the right click contect menu in Explorer had the Backup and Versions (on all right click files) and if performed on a tib file you should see Archive and Storage as options in addition to Backup.

Colin, ATI is installed for all users.

W7 UAC is disabled.

I have admin permissions.

I don't have a + to expand a dir, but didn't know what else to call it.

As I stated in another thread, I've installed v10, and if it works (and is looking very good so far), I'll either stick with v10 or use some other software. v2010 is totally useless to me.

I remember buying v11 and getting a refund, it didn't work right on XP, the recovery disk did not work.  There was some other version I had to get a refund for. 

v10 was working perfectly in XP, maybe it will work fine in win7 too.  Mounting images works perfectly and it's SO fast compared to v2010.  I'll try a recovery from the boot disk later and if it works, this is good.

This fault is occuring with others.

George, if you have a password it seems to create this problem at some point. Even on single volume backups.
